Tourism
Tourism Volcanic areas offer a variety of activities for tourists to engage in. Many people visit volcanoes to hike and camp in the area or simply to enjoy the scenery, Volcanic areas are rich in history and people.
Geothermal energy
Geothermal energy is derived from the heat in the earth's crust. When groundwater comes into contact with hot rocks beneath the surface, it heats up and erupts as hot water or steam. The hot water or steam can be harnessed to drive turbines and produce electricity.
Risks and Benefits of living near volcano
fertile volcanic soil
- lava and ash fro volcanic eruption break down to form fertile soil
- as the richest soil on earth , it is favorable for agriculture
- minerals in volcanic rocks will only be available to plants after rocks hav broken down over thousands of years
precious stones and minerals, building materials
- Volcanic rocks can be rich in precious stones and minerals. These resources can only be extracted from volcanic areas after millions of years. When the upper layers of volcanic rocks are eroded, the precious stones and minerals can be extracted.
- Volcanic rocks are also good resources for building materials and the production of other daily items. For example, in Indonesia, workers collect sulphur from active volcanoes. The sulphur that is collected is subsequently used to make matches and fertilisers.

- tourism
- geothermal energy
landslides
- landslides occur due to the structural collapse of a volcanic cone during an eruption
- can obstruct the flows of rivers causing floods
- blocked roads
- buried villages and farmland
pollution
Destruction by volcanic materials
- thick plumes of volcanic ash can block sunlight
- suffocate crops when settled on the ground
- cause respiratory problem for people and animal
- volcanic eruption releases gases that are harmful to people[example :carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide
- Materials include lava[high temp] , rock fragments and volcanic boobs
- lava can burn the areas it flow through
- low silica lava moves rapidly and flows longer distance [cause damage to larger area]
- The pyroclastic flow can destroy everything in its path with rock fragments ranging from ashto boulder
- inhaling hot ash and gases can lead to death or serious injury
- causes damage to property (example:houses, farms and crops)
- resulting in people being homeless and jobless
effect on weather
Risks of living near volcano
- Sulpher dioxide released from an eruption may react with water vapour and other chemicals in the air to form sulpher based particles
- particles reflect the sun's energy into space temporarily cooling the earth for a period of time ranging a few months to years
- Destruction by volcanic materials
- Landslides
- Polllutions
- effects on weater
