This doctrine is the ninth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It explains how they believe Jesus lived a perfect and sinless life, died, and resurrected.
The Life of Jesus
Seventh-day Adventists believe that Jesus lived a perfect life of obedience to God. They believe that Jesus was tortured, died, and was resurrected. They believe that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus made it so He could atone for the sins of people and people could have eternal life.
The Death of Jesus
The death of Jesus was a substitute so we don’t have to die the same death that He did. His death is supposed to mean that we can be changed and be perfect like He was. He was represented by a lamb because He accepted His death without fighting.
How the Church would be different
The Seventh-day Adventist Church would be different if they suddenly denounced this Fundamental Belief because this belief gives hope to them that they could see Jesus and have the same right to live forever that Jesus has. Seventh-day Adventists believe that they are heirs to God’s kingdom in heaven and that they have power over Satan and power over death just like Jesus did. If they didn’t have this belief, they wouldn’t have hope to ever beat sin. If Seventh-day Adventists didn’t believe this, then they would not have a good reason to think that they could ever have a resurrection. They wouldn’t understand how they could have eternal life if they sinned even one time.
Conclusion
this fundamental belief tells us that Jesus was tortured, killed, and resurrected, but it shows us how important it was that He did all of that. If He didn’t do all three of those things, we might wonder if He really loves us and if He really has power over Satan and death.
The ninth fundamental belief demonstrates God’s love for us by showing that He let Jesus get tortured, killed, then resurrected so Jesus could have power over death. Now all of us can have power over death too. God was willing to let His only son come to earth to live like a human and be tortured and killed just so he could show that He is a fair God. That is something that a loving person would do. When God shows how fair and just He is that is something only a loving person would do.
Jesus was able to save people because He said that He “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His live a ransom for many” in Matthew 2:28. Ephesians says that “we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins”.
The Old Testament and New Testament tell us that Jesus died for our sins and since we are forgiven then we can beat death like Jesus did.
Isaiah 53 tells how “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities…and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all…It pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief…[He was] an offering for sin…and He bore the sin of many.” This means that God was happy that Jesus had to be hurt to take our sins. It means that Jesus accepted our sins so we could have atonement. This was a prophecy of Jesus because 1 Corinthians 15:3 says that “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.” It was all part of God’s plan for Jesus to do this.
Leviticus 17:11 tells us that “the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you…to make atonement for your souls.” This was talking about the lambs that would be sacrificed but it was also about Jesus who is called the Lamb of God.
Even though Jesus’s death was to atone for the sins of people there is still a record of all the sins that we do. God still forgives when we ask for forgiveness but He does not wipe away the sin because He needs to show that He is a forgiving God but He is fair. He shows His fairness when He makes people accountable for their sins. Then when we change our ways and we are forgiven for the wrong we have done, God lets Jesus’s righteousness take the place of our sinful lives and then we can be perfect. Jesus has to take our sins like they were His sins.
