Population trends in Canada

Diversity.

Trends

A trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. The worlds population is increasing rapidly but since we know its trend we can predict for the future and make sure we don't run out of natural resources.

Immigration and cultural diversity

  • The majority of canadians - almost as may as 97% are immigrants or decedents of immigrants. This fact helps explain why Canada's population is described as a multicultural society.
  • Family Class:Immigrants who come to Canada to be with family.
  • Refugee Class:Immigrants who come to Canada for freedom
  • Independent class:Evaluated with the point system.

Population Issues in the future.

Population trends

Immigrants help Canada.

  • When the immigrants find jobs the pay taxes which helps Canada.
  • When a lot of immigrants come in at once we would have to provide shelter for them so the government would have to build houses and cut down animals habitats.
  • When immigrants come to Canada they bring their knowledge with them which helps Canada.

*Immigrants usually migrate where they can find other immigrants.

  • A lot of people will not have enough food and drinking water.
  • Global warming increases. (bad air quality
  • Energy sources are becoming scarcer and harder to reach or extract.

Social problems

  • Over crowding.
  • Conflicts and wars.

What is a population trend?

  • A population trend refers to changes over time in population.

  • Changes over time include changes in ranging behavior and distribution, bio geography.

  • You can predict the future of a population by its current trend.

Population.

Dependency load

  • Canada's population increases for two different reasons: natural increase (more birth than death) and net migration (more people move to Canada than leave).
  • The combination of high birth rates and high death rates keeps the size of the population stable

The assumption is that children and older adults do not work and must be supported by the working population. The part of the population that must be supported is called the dependency load. A high dependency load tends to put a lot of pressure on the society to provide things like-

  • Education
  • Housing
  • Healthcare
  • Seniors' homes
