The Bahamas was a perfect place for pirates to hide their ships and their gold.

There are 2,000 cays around the 700 islands. Cays are small sandy islands around the islands.

100 years ago when the reefs died they formed the Bahamas.

Piracy

Anne Boonny and Mary Read dressed up like men and were more vicious then the males.

Edward Teach (Blackbeard)

Anne Bonny fell in love with Calcio Jack. One night they went out and stole a ship from the harbor and took on a life of piracy together. Bonny learned how to use weapons and became as dangerous as any male pirate. In 1720 their ship was attacked and all of the crew was captured including Anne Bonny and friend, Mary Read. They were sentenced to death. They confessed that they were both women and pregnant. They were spared from being hung. Read died in jail and Bonny disappeared.
