2. Do you have the attitude needed?
3. Do you have the personality that fits the environment?
What is an interview?
4. Anticipate certain questions
- How will your skills and experience benefit the company?
- Long-term goals?
- What attracted you to the company/position?
- Why are you leaving your old job?
- What is your greatest weakness?
Pre-interview Checklist
In the Interview
- Be polite to EVERYONE!
- Recall names.
Nonverbal communication.
- Firm handshake.
- Think through an answer before speaking.
- No gum/candy/ cell phone.
- Use good posture.
- Do not cross arms.
- Control nervous habits.
- Screening process that involves a face-to-face meeting.
- This is the employers opportunity to see how you perform under a stressful situation.

2. Be familiar with your résumé.
3. Know the company.
- You will be asked what you know.
7. Dress for SUCCESS
- You know what they say about first impressions.
- Dress appropriate for the position you are applying for.
- Proper grooming is essential.
- Ask questions that may determine if you like the position.
- What is a normal workday like?
- Who would be my supervisors?
- Does the company promote from within (advancement opportunities)?
What Cannot be Asked by Law
5. Do a practice interview
- Do not prepare questions for someone to ask you, have them do it so you may be caught off guard like in a real interview.
6. Prepare questions
- Every interview will end with, “Do you have any questions for me?”
- Avoid asking about pay/benefits.
- Equal Opportunity Act of 1964
- Prohibits discrimination based upon race, age gender, color, religion, or national origin.
- Rehabilitation Act of 1973: Protection for those with physical or mental disabilities.
