Thomas Jefferson vs. James Monroe
Continental Congress:
~Conclusion~
~Thomas Jefferson~
Revolutionary War:
April 19th, 1775,
- The American Revolutionary War was fought against Great Britain from 1775 to 1783 during the Colonial Era.
- Jefferson commenced the Louisiana purchase which helped double the size of early America.
- Negotiated the treaty of Paris which ended the revolutionary war
- The American victory at the Battle of Saratoga persuaded France to enter the Revolutionary War in early 1778.
In conclusion, I think that James Monroe had the better presidency because he delicately dealt with the issue of slavery, helped set up the meeting for Jefferson for the Louisiana purchase, and told the other European countries to recognize that the United states is it's own country and to cease and affairs in which it could be detrimental to the United States.
- Helped take down the "Alien and sedition" which basically said you could not criticize the government or you would go to jail.
- In 1789, the new U.S. Constitution went into effect and the Continental Congress adjourned forever and was replaced by the U.S. Congress.
- The Peace Treaty of Paris 1783 was signed on September 3, 1783 and ended the American Revolutionary War between Great Britain and the United States of America. The treaty established a northern boundary with Canada and set the Mississippi River as the western boundary

July 4th, 1776, Declaration of Independence:
~James Monroe~
The creation of the job: What is a president?
- Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence.
- Best known for creating the "Monroe Doctrine", which told the other European countries to stay on there side and not to get involved with American affairs.
- Contributors were Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston, Roger Sherman, and Thomas Jefferson.
The presidency was made by the authors and thinkers of the constitution. They wanted a strong executive who could deal with emergencies, particularly those involving other nations, but who would not dominate the U.S. Government. They gave the president the power to sign or veto legislation, command the armed forces, ask for the written opinion of his Cabinet, convene or adjourn Congress, grant reprieves and pardons, and receive ambassadors.
- Also helped write the "Missouri Compromise" (written by Henry Clay) which helped create a slate to deal with slavery and western expansion in the United states
- On December 13, 1952, the Declaration of Independence (along with the Constitution and Bill of Rights) was formally delivered to the National Archives in Washington, D.C. .
- His term was know as the "Era of good feelings"
