What is chaupadi?
- Hindu tradition in which menstruating women and girls are isolated because they bring bad luck and they are impure
- Practiced in Far Western Nepal in Achaam village
- Isolated in a shed/mud house called goth
- Firmly believe breaking the tradition would anger the gods and cause misfortune on the family
- chau means menstruation and padi meaning women – is even used as an insult, directed at both men and women, to imply they are dirty
