- Slavery is illegal now in most places
- She received a notebook from the (white) children because they were saying how she didn't know how to read or write
- Today we are supposed to go to school
- She secretly did know how to read and write because she would listen to there lessons in the library while she dusted, but she writes every day in her diary
- The kids left so now she cant listen to there lessons, but she still then decides to read the books in the library secretly

- Everyone left and only Nancy, Patsy, (the new guest that came for work) Brother Solomon, and his wife Violet were still at the plantation
- Master died from sickness and the whole house was gloomy
- Patsy wanted to be free too and asked Brother Solomon and Violet if she could leave with them to Charleston
- Patsy left with them and gave herself her own name ( Phillis Frederick) after two authors
Middle
- The Civil War was finally over and all the slaves at the Davis Hall Plantation started to leave since they were free
- She decided to tell the other slaves how she knows how to read and write
- She started to go to the Arbor Church and they were getting a school
- They asked Patsy to be the teacher till the new one comes
Differences from then and now
- African Americans were not a loud to go to school
