Due to the overcrowded conditions this leaves the inmates who are & not mentally & physically ill in unsafe, unsanitary living conditions, spend less time on educational & social development thus forcing mingling between low & high level inmates may lead to an increase in possible replapses.

  • It involves a public good both for the safety of the citizens & justice being served
  • It should be on the policy agenda because since 1980 to now overcrowded prisons have been a recuring problem
  • It affects 167,000 prisoners
  • The money thats being used is $380 million

The U.S. Department of Justice over see the courts and prisons on a Federal level,but each state runs its own Department of Justice State level.

Its is a State Issue

State prisons are operated by the state executive branch

Public Policy

  • A Regulation policy would be the best suited outcome due to the severe number of years overcrowded prisons have increased in disregard over new prisons that have eventually became overcrowded as well and is still on going.
  • Policy's can be established by doing someting & choosing not to do anything making it a very consequential decision & when a policy is implemented its because they effect a great number of people
