Personality Theory of Career Choice
- Early childhood experiences influence their career choice
- Roe believed important motivators when occupational choices are made come from needs that are not satisfied (which she drew off Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory)
- Roe developed three primary modes of child rearing: emotional concentration, avoidance, and acceptance
- Developed an eight occupational classification system
Three Primary Modes
- Emotional Concentration: ranges from overprotection to overly demanding parents
- Physical needs are met
- Avoidance: ranges from neglecting child's physical needs to rejecting child's emotional needs
- Acceptance: environments which child's physical and psychological needs are met
- Everything is done in a supportive manner
