Works Cited

In William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily," Emily is a woman who rarely spends time with people other than her family because her father doesn't allow it. However, one day her father dies, and then Emily is lost on what to do. She soon falls into depression because of her loneliness. However one day she meets a man named Homer Barron, but he's only there to work. Homer and Emily start to talk and Emily gets attached to him. Soon Emily realizes that Homer will have to leave, upon thinking of that she couldn't imagine being alone again. She then decides the best way to stay with him was to kill him, so she goes to buy arsenic and kills Homer. Summary of Harrison Bergeron

In Kurt Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron," Harrison is a child who is put into jail/captivity and labeled as extremely dangerous by the government. The reason behind his incarceration is because he's 7 feet tall and extremely strong, and being above or below average is illegal. If somebody is born above or below average they're given handicaps that can make them like everyone else. Harrison gets tired of his handicaps and decides that it was time for him to take over and become the "King". He breaks out of jail and travels to a ballet recital where he demands the musicians to play and a ballerina to dance with him. Once they start to dance and jump, gravity starts to stop working and they fly in the air. Soon the handicap general had come and she shot and killed Harrison, which made gravity return.

Thesis

Deep down, both Emily and Harrison have hidden personalities, for example, Harrison wants to become the ruler, and Emily never wants to be alone.

Conclusion

As Albert Einstein said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile." Both of the characters, Emily and Harrison had lived lives in some kind of isolation and both longed for someone else or something else.

Comparing and Contrasting Emily Grierson and Harrison Bergeron

By Jason Barnes

Both Emily and Harrison had lived in isolated lives, and they had longed to be with others. Since they weren't able to do that when they had tried, things took a turn for the worst. As Albert Einstein said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile."

"Harrison Bergeron" is told in a third-person point of view, this helps the reader understand what's happening in the story and how each character is reacting to the situations. “A Rose for Emily" is also told in a third person point of view, this adds to the suspense of what Emily is up to and how the other characters would react to the situation.

“A Rose for Emily" is also told in a third person point of view, this adds to the suspense of what Emily is up to and how the other characters would react to the situation.

Emily is shown as a dynamic character because when the townspeople see what Emily looked like after her father's death. Harrison is also shown to be a dynamic character because he beings following and obeying the law but then decides that it was his time to take over.
