The Importance of Mitch/Male Society

Mitch values the importance of family values, unlike the masculine animal-like qualities of his counter-part Stanley.

Physical dominance- Stanley is dominant and physically aggressive and assertive towards Blanche-he rapes her! However, Mitch isn`t aggressive but his language portrays him as physically strong (stereotypes of masculinity) 6ft 1.

Mitch is upholding the respectful values of society-he fought in the war and has a decorum that is respectful.

Stereotypes of males being 'greased up' and not intelligent. However, Mitch does possess a meek demeanor (perhaps arguably as an effect of the war or his mothers influence), which does make him a target for criticism from the other men.
