Romeo and Juliet: Conflicts

By: Kristina, Katie, Kayla, and Jonathan

Evaluation

Examples

Again conflict is used a lot in this story and Shakespeare really made that obvious with all the problems he throws at Juliet and Romeo's way.

1. Romeo and Juliet declare their love for each other in Act II Scene ii

2. Romeo and Juliet get married in Act II Scene vi

3 Tybalt kills Mercutio in Act III Scene i

4. Romeo kills Tybalt in Act III Scene i

5. Romeo gets banished in Act III Scene i

6. Friar doesn't tell Romeo about the potion in Act IV Scene i

7. Romeo kills Paris in Act V Scene iii

8. Romeo kills himself upon seeing Juliet "dead" in Act V Scene iii

9. Juliet sees Romeo dead, and then kills herself in Act V Scene iii

Thesis Statement

I believe conflict is the most important element in this story because it's what keeps the story going. There would be no story without conflict because the story itself is all about conflict. If we didn't have conflict the story would be boring and people would not enjoy it, and people would have no purpose for reading it.

Introduction to Conflicts

Definition of Conflict

In Romeo and Juliet, conflict is a huge part of the plot, and without it, we would not have had a wonderful tragedy like this in literature. Conflict means that between two or more things, a disagreement is going on. It is what keeps most stories going, and what keeps the readers interested.

1. A fight, battle, or struggle, especially a prolonged struggle; strife.

2. Controversy; quarrel: conflicts between parties.

3. Discord of action, feeling, or effect; antagonism or opposition, as of interests or principles: a conflict of ideas.

4. A striking together; collision.

5. Incompatibility or interference, as of one idea, desire, event, or activity with another: a conflict in the schedule.
