There are bins on every floor of all buildings including the dormitories.
Our campus also features 3 Dream Machines.
The Campus
Howard University consists of 4 campuses which house a collective 103 buildings and 7 million square feet of space! This space serves 10,594 students, 3,915 staff and 1,288 faculty members.
To manage the materials the university produces Howard University uses a dual stream recycling system.
Much like our recycling system materials are collected by “dual” partners. University staff handles waste and Kiron Enterprises handles recyclables.

Burr Gymnasium
Burr Gymnasium has Brita Hydration Stations. These stations take tap water and filter it using a Brita filter and provide a fresh source of water for students and staff. The BHS encourages students to eliminate bottled water use
Burr Gym also has solar panels on its roof to supply power to the gym.
Hydration Stations and bottleless Water Coolers are going to be installed in our student center soon.
Dream Machine Kiosk
The Dream Machine project is a joint effort between PepsiCo., Waste Management, Keep America Beautiful and Greenopolis. Howard’s Dream Machine grant consists of 3 recycling kiosks and 36 static bins. The recycling kiosks work as a way to receive instant gratification for recycling. The kiosks were developed to take bottles and cans and give the user points for them that can be redeemed for discounts and prizes. These prizes are redeemable from one of the partners of the project, Greenopolis. These bins are placed in the hospital, Black Burn Center and the i-lab.
