146-65 M.Y.A (Cretaceous period)

55-38 M.Y.A (Eocene epoch)

-Gondwana and Laurasia in the process of splitting. Australia is connected to Antarctica, New Zealand and South America.

-Monotremes such as Kollikodon and Steropodon common in Australia

-The majority of fauna is made up of Dinosaurs. Examples unique to Australia are Muttaburrasaurus, and Minmi.

-Australia has a cool, wet climate

66-55 M.Y.A (Palaeocene epoch)

-Approximately 65 million years ago, two thirds of all life on Earth suddenly goes extinct.

-The extinction of the dinosaurs allows mammalian life to spread

-The surviving dinosaurs, such as the velociraptor, eventually evolve into birds.
