- Jomo Kenyatta faught to end the harsh laws set forth from the British.
- Jomo Kenyatta represented the Kikuyu.
- Jomo Kenyatta became a national hero and was the first leader of Kenya in 1963.
- In December 12,1963 Kenya became independent from the British.
- Independence was gained due to the Mau Mau Rebellion and Guerrillas.
- The Mau Mau movement was a African nationalist group that consisted mostly of Kikuyus, which opposed British colonial rule.
- Kenya held an election in 2002 which was the first fair election.
- The largest ethnic group in Kenya were Kikuyu.
- Kikuyus were arrested and thousands of Kikuyus were killed by the British in order to stop the warfare.
- Although the Kikuyu were mostly imprisoned or killed many Africans continued the movement against the British.
- Kenya in the 1940s was under the rule of the British / white settlers.
- The white settlers maintained domination of Kenya by creating their own laws.
- Kenya gained its independence "after armed struggle."
- The guerrilla warfare rebelled and attacked settlers or any colonial rulers.

- Decolonization is defined as the act of getting rid of colonization, or freeing a country from being dependent on another country.
During Colonization
- In 1895- 1920, British Empire colonize Kenya
- When colonize they were called East Africa Protectorate in 1895.
- The people with land from Kikuyu meant they had to move to European farm and estates.
- They took away their land.
- In 1920 is known as Kenya Colony.

- There was the scramble for Africa and England wanted to maintain power
- Nationalism and Respect from other powerful nations
- Economic profit from slave trade, Kenyan raw materials that helped Britain's industrial revolution, and natural resources.
- Great place to make trade since it was in a coast and had arable land where they could expand agriculture .
- Ultimately the motive was economic prosperity and ethnocentric behavior
Location of Kenya
- Kenya is located on Central-East Africa along the coast of Indian Ocean.
Before Imperialization
- There used to be many different ethnic groups and language groups.
- Many religions other than Christianity and Islam
- There were no European rulers infiltrated inside of Kenya they just used the place as a trading port.
- Different economic systems and Africans controlled the trade.
