Structure

The sun has six layers:

Core: holds nearly half of the suns mass, it is the center of the sun

Corona: the outer atmosphere of the sun.

Chromosphere: is the middle layer of the sun's atmosphere.

Photosphere: the visible surface of the sun

Convection Zone: the layer of the sun through which energy travels by convection from radioactive zone.

Radioactive Zone: the layer of the sun through which energy is transferred away from the core by radiation.

What is the future of our sun?

The sun is believed to remain for 5 billion more years, longer than the human race will live. After that, it will become a red giant. Eventually, it will shed its outer layers, and the remaining core will collapse to become a white dwarf. Slowly, this will fade to form a theoretical object sometimes known as a white dwarf.

What is the Source of the Sun's Energy?

Where does the energy come from to keep the surface temperature of the sun at 6,000 degrees? You may ask.

The sun produces energy through nuclear fusion. The sun is undergoing constant nuclear fusion, where hydrogen atoms combine to form helium in the hot fiery core. The by-product of nuclear fusion in the Sun's core is a massive volume of energy that gets released and radiates outward toward the surface of the Sun and then into the solar system beyond it.

THE SUN

Composition Of The Sun

-Made of 75% (hot gasses) hydrogen and 25% helium and other small amounts of elements such as (neon, nitrogen, magnesium, iron, silicon, etc.)

-The sun was born about 4.6 billion years ago. Believed to be formed by a huge cloud of gas and particles that collapsed under the force of its own gravity. Known as the NEBULA THEORY.

- As the nebula collapsed because of its gravity, it spun faster and flattened into a disk. Most of the material was pulled toward the center to form the sun.

The sun is a sphere with a diameter of 1,400,000 km.

Important Facts!

-The sun is the heart of the solar system, where it is by far the largest object.

-One of the 100 billion+ stars in milky way

-It holds 99.8 percent of the solar system's mass and is roughly

-about one million Earths could fit inside the sun.

-The sun is a very important aspect to all life on earth since it is our main source of energy, without it we could not survive. (If we wanted to produce the same amount of energy we would have to explode 100 billion tons of dynamite!)

-Temperature of 5,505 °C!

-The sun is 30, 000 Light Years away from the center of the milky way.
