Myers-Briggs: Personality Types

* People who prefer judging like order, plans, and consistency

* Prefer situations to be under control as much as possible

OR

* People who prefer perceiving like to be flexible and spontaneous

* Prefer to adapt to situations as they happen

* Sensing involves focussing on what is present and real

* People prefer to focus on practical applications of information

OR

* Intuition involves thinking about a situation instead of experiencing it

* People prefer to focus on abstract theories and ideas

* Extraverts gain energy from participating in activities with others

* Extraverts understand problems best through discussion with others

OR

* Introverts gain energy from working independently

* Introverts understand problems and ideas best through reflection

* Thinkers make logical and consistent decisions

* People do not focus on personal wishes or others' wishes when making decisions

* Temperaments are based on how people communicate and act

Communication: People prefer to focus on concrete facts or abstract ideas

Action: People preder to focus on doing what works or doing what is right

* Keirsey describes 4 temperaments

* Analyze systems to determine how they work and what will make them work better

* Focus on abstract concepts related to problems as well as how to apply these concepts in the real world

* Focussed on and determined to accomplish goals

* Little regard for political correctness

* Often seen as cold and distant because of intense concentration on problems

* Make up approximately 5-10% of the population

* Examples: Albert Einstein, Thomas Jefferson, and

John Adams

* Like working with objects that can be created and manipulated

* Seen as risk takers, adventurous, and spontaneous

* Prefer to be in the midst of the action

* Superb people skills; often perceived as charming

* Like the freedom to do what they want

* Make up approximately 30-35% of the population

* Examples: Bill Clinton, Michael Jordan, and

Ronald Reagan

* Concerned with personal growth and development of themselves and of others

* Cooperate with other people to achieve goals

* Help people to work together in a harmonious way

* Focus on abstract ideas instead of on what is real

* Focus on ethical and spiritual principles

* Make up approximately 15-20% of the population

* Examples: Princess Diana, Mahondas Gandhi, and

Eleanor Roosevelt

* Prefer and succeed in management roles

* Dependable and hardworking

* Serious about their responsibilities/duties

* Embrace law and order as well as tradition

* Follow rules and cautious about change

* Cooperate with others

* Make up approximately 40-45% of the population

* Examples: Mother Theresa, George Washington, and Harry S Truman
