Marine Biology

Marine biologists are scientists who study the origins, behavior, diseases, genetics, distribution and wildlife of the marine environment. Marine biologists are those who are fascinated by ocean creatures and enjoy the budding of their underwater explorations.

Salary Range

The type of educational requirements depends on the position the biologist holds. A bachelor’s degree in marine biology may be sufficient however a major is recommended.

Earnings for marine biologists are as varied as the types of positions they fill. Graduate students may earn as little as $15,000 to $25,000 a year. Once fully qualified, marine biologists working in research can earn anywhere from $40,000 to more than $85,000 a year. Many marine biologists are employed as biology professors at universities. Experienced professors can earn between $60,000 and $140,000 a year.

The employment outlook in this field is highly competitive. The supply of marine scientists exceeds the demand, and the number of government jobs is limited.
