- Education: Studied food safety, went on to Hanover College, Indianan Medical College. In 1871, he finished his degree and stayed at that school to teach chemistry. Later, joined faculty of Purdue University as a chem professor.
- Made discovery while examining pure honey, most honey sold was made of glucose.

- Today we have health inspectors and posted health ratings, warning labels, etc.
- Coca Cola grew frustrated with Wiley for fighting them because their products contained small doses of cocaine. Eventually the cocaine was removed from their products altogether.
