A healthy lifestyle is important because students need to be healthy in order to learn. The health of the students affects how the students learn because if the students feel good that day, this could change their attitude towards paying attention during class or not. Also, it could affect the students' energy and may lower the amount of sleep in class if healthier foods and more exercise was included in school.
The San Francisco School of the Arts provides a great and effective low teacher to student ratio that will definitely benefit students in the future. It also allows bright students to learn from professional teachers that use helpful motivational strategies. A safe and healthy environment is provided due to the great staff members, serene setting, and a protected environment. The later school starting time allows the students’ “late attendance” to decrease and allows them to take in more information since they would be more focused due to the later school time. Students will love SFSA, because we emphasize these strategies for a student’s success. The SFSA provides a great environment and prepares students for the future.
A later start time will greatly improve a students' achievements; grades, learning abilities, test scores, homework consistency, etc. Students will be able to focus and understand new information due to the new readiness of their minds and body. Attendance will go up and students will be feeling good about starting a new day and learning new things.
In education, there are several disadvantages, making this important educational age very unproductive. In the SFSA project, we work hard to remedy these issues by hiring teachers who are college-trained or highly knowledgeable of motivational strategies in order for students to be motivated each day. Also, there is a wide range of classes that the students can choose from to create their ideal schedule. Studies show that student achievements were raised when a school's starting time was changed to 8:30AM, and that a lower teacher to student ratio improves students' grades, too, so the SFSA project emphasizes that as well. Our school stresses a safe and healthy environment with it being located near Sausalito, a safety and weapon policy, including a signature of approval, and a key physical education program. This project is highly likely to make our new SFSA, and hopefully other schools, successful.
The SFSA emphasizes the concept of a teacher highly knowledgeable of motivational strategies so students will not be in their own worlds throughout classes, looking forward to learning new things each day. For instance, students will be more motivated when they know why they are being taught something. If the students do not know why they are being taught a subject, they would not know the purpose of learning it, so they would not want to learn it, which obviously does not motivate a student.
Teenagers have a natural hormonal system that releases a sleepiness hormone called melatonin. Melatonin is only produced from 11 PM- 8 AM. This is why teens sleep late and wake up late too. Being sleepy in the morning causes students to be tired and they are not able to focus or remember the information learned in the morning.
The San Francisco School of Arts provides a safe, healthy and creative environment in order for students to achieve their goals. With dedicated and college-trained teachers, organized class times, an outstanding physical/health education program, and an effective teacher to student ratio, one will enjoy and receive a memorable experience. SFSA stresses the importance of the arts and makes time for students to participate in classes they desire to excel in.
In order for a teacher to be knowledgeable of teaching and motivational skills, they have to be trained, either through college, or consistently daily before they become one at SFSA. Research shows that if teachers practice with their teaching, it is much more likely to not make a student apathetic in class. In fact, we believe that teachers must be highly skilled because many different factors of teaching highly affects a student's motivational level, so SFSA teachers must be worthy of knowing all of the factors. If a teacher is not trained well or experienced, it can formulate a negative opinion of the teacher in a student’s head, and SFSA does not want our teachers to feel that.
Although 1:1 treatments would leave a large workload for the teacher, such as providing homework, giving extra work for students who need practice in the subject, assisting the student by helping them in their weakest subject, etc., there is a solution. Teacher workload can be reduced by decreasing the workload for students. That way, students will have time to learn, making the 1:1 time helpful. A lower and effective teacher to student ratio also depends on the teacher's motivational strategies and teacher training.
The San Francisco School of the Arts provides an effective lower teacher to student ratio that positively affects the students' grades, encourages student participation, and improves the students' understanding of the subject. The fewer the students, the more individual attention the students receive. 1:1 treatments will greatly affect the students' understanding of what they are learning, and it will provide lasting effects that benefit them in the future. This will also increase student participation during class times. The SFSA project provides more student achievements, lasting effects, and individualized attention.
