According to Robotworx there are three areas that determine the hardware for robots:

“autonomous car”. This is a car that does not need a driver. It knows how to drive, can assess what is going on in the environment and is able to respond appropriately. How do they do this? Automakers are currently investing in cars that “think”. The car uses radar, GPS, and computer vision.

There are applications in the home, in medicine, in the military – many times the robot is used to deal with dangerous situations.

Robots have been around for a long time but they are becoming more and more sophisticated and are being applied in many different ways. The history and evolution of robots and robotics is long and interesting. According to the Robotic Research Group, the history of robots began in 1495 with Leonardo Di Vinci, though this was not what they were called. The word “Robot” did not come to be until 1921. The advancement of this technology was slow until the 20th century when it began to take off. The advancements in the 21st century are even more progressive.

The use of robotics in aircraft production is increasing according to an Aviation article in the Wichita Eagle . This is just one sample of how robots are being used for production and streamlining a complicated process.

One of the most amazing applications of robotics is in health care, particularly in the area of prosthetics. The video titled Wounded Warrior Uses Robotic Arm Prosthetic, provides a visual of a soldier who is able to grip and pick up a ball.
