Anatomy of Blood Supply to Lungs
Pulmonary Circulation
Two Circulations
- Pulmonary Circulation
- From Right Ventricle
- Receives 100% of blood flow
- Bronchial Circulation
- From the aorta, intercostal, subclavian, or internal mammary arteries
- 2% of left ventricular output
Bronchopulmonary Anastamoses
Pulmonary Circulation Cont'd
- Third of the venous drainage from the bronchial circulation is via the azygos, hemiazygos, and intercostal veins, which returns bronchial venous blood to the right atrium
- Two-thirds of bronchial capillary blood drains into anastomoses or communicating vessels that empty into the pulmonary veins
Bronchial Circulation
- Nutrient and gas exchange for conducting airways
