Why I Chose "The Kind of Friends We Used to Be" for my Project

I chose "The Kind of Friends We Used to Be" because it was a very entertaining book. It wasn't hard to read, and had a great and relatable storyline. I really liked this book because it reminds me of friends that I have grown apart from, and it had a easy to follow story.

In "The Kind of Friends We Used to Be", two best friends Marilyn and Kate grow apart in middle school. They began to go their separate ways and develop different interests. This connects to real life, because a lot of times, friends grow apart when they begin to like new things and make many more new friends, and don't think they have time for any of their old friends.

Why I Chose to do a Prezi For My Project

I chose to do a Prezi, because I think that Prezis are much cooler than an average power point. I also like the way that Prezi displays the information, and how Prezi.com creates the basic layout so you can just go add in information.

Summary

The two main characters in this book; Kate and Marilyn used to be the best of friends. Up until their first year of middle school, Kate and Marilyn did everything together. Marilyn became a cheerleader, and Kate decided she wanted to play guitar. Marilyn made new cheerleader friends (who despised Kate), became obsessed with hair, makeup, and clothes. Kate, was only interested in guitars, and didn't really care about if she dressed stylish enough, or wore her hair just right. Since Marilyn basically ditches Kate, Kate feels very demoted being left out among Marilyn's cheerleader friends. In the middle of the school year, Marilyn decided to run for student council president. Kate is asked to be Marilyn's campaign manager, and they become closer. Dealing with all of their middle school problems, they manage to meet new friends and become closer in the process.

You should always be yourself and you should never change just to make someone like you.

Frances O'Roark Dowell was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1964. She is the author of many best selling books such as Dovey Coe, The Kind of Friends We Used to Be, Chicken Boy, and many more.

After Dowell finished high school, she went to Winston-Salem NC, to go to college. She majored in English, she mainly considered herself as a poet, not as a fiction writer. A lot of her writing inspiration comes from where her father and grandfather were in the army. A lot of military themes can be found in her writing.
