Have you ever wondered what kind of animal that can blend in with the snow? Arctic wolves sometimes have an all white coat of fur so they blend in with the snow. The climate arctic wolves live in is very frigid temperatures. They eat 2,453 lbs a year. When arctic wolf cubs are born they are deaf. Sometimes the mother of the cubs can have up to 6 cubs.

The outer appearance of an arctic wolf is a warm grey coat of fur. Some arctic wolves have an all white coat of fur. Their fur is very thick so they don't freeze in the freezing weather. Arctic wolves are one of the only species of wolves to have shorter legs and muzzles. They have rounded ears as well. The measurements of arctic wolves is 24 to 36 inches. Male arctic wolves are larger than the females. The wolves weight from 55 to 88 lbs. Males are larger than females. From head to tail an arctic wolf can be 3 to 5 feet long.

The outer appearance of a newborn arctic wolf is a light pink coat of fur. When the newborn cub is born they are completely blind, they are tiny, helpless newborn cubs. They are also born completely deaf. The cubs are considered full grown when they are 55 to 88 pounds and 24 to 36 inches. When the mother is pregnant with the cubs she can weigh up to 100 to 120 pounds. When the cubs are born they can weigh up to 10 to 15 pounds. Cubs will be born a couple months after mating. The mother gives live birth to 2 to 3 cubs in late May to early June. The mother will feed the cubs with her milk. When the cubs are old enough they will learn to hunt.

Habitat

The climate arctic wolves live in is very frigid temperatures. The temperature is usually -22 degrees fahrenheit. The ground is permanently frozen. The animals in this habitat are musk ox, arctic fox, and rock ptarmigan. Arctic wolves are found in Northern parts of the Arctic Circle. Mainly they´re found in Northern Canada, Alaska, Parts of Greenland, Northern parts of Iceland, and Northern England. As well as along the Northern edge of North America and Northward of the North Pole. They find abandoned caves in the forest to make their homes.

Food

Arctic wolves are carnivores which means they eat meat. The animals they eat are musk oxen, arctic hare, pearly, caribou, ptarmigan, lemmings, seals, and resting birds. The prey they catch does not change seasonally. They eat roughly 7 pounds a day, 210 pounds a month, ant 2,435 pounds a year. When arctic wolves hunt, they hunt in packs with larger animals. When they are hunting smaller animals they hunt alone. The animals they eat are found in North America in the woods and forest.

Unlike other wolf species arctic wolves hardly ever come in contact with humans. Having white fur allows them to blend in with their surrounding. Sometimes the mother of cubs can have up to 12 cubs in the spring.
