Pollution Affecting Water Quality
Conclusion
The quality of our lives is dependent to the quality of water. We should always treat water preciously.
- Pollutants can be gases, liquids, dissolved substances, particulates
- Pollutants can enter the water system by atmospheric deposition, soil erosion, seepage, runoff, direct discharge
Two types of pollution that affect the water system are:
- Point source pollution: Pollution that can be attributed from one single source (e.g marine outfall)
- Non-point source pollution: Pollution that is attributed from many different sources (e.g runoff)

Factories releasing pollutants into the ecosystem
How are Humans Affecting Water Quality
6 ways humans are affecting water quality:
- Informal Settlements: Constructing houses illegally
- Agriculture: Farming of crops, animals etc
- Wetland Destruction: Destroying areas that are covered by water
- Littering: Dropping objects, mostly man-made on the ground
- Oil Spills: Releasing oil into the environment due to human activity
- Factories: Industrial site, consisted of mainly buildings and machinery
- One small chemical, or physical object that goes into a water system can affect the water quality forever

Bibliography
Water quality describes the condition of water, as in:
- Biological: Visible and microscopic organisms
- Chemical: Dissolved substances that come from natural processes or human activity
- Physical: Materials that do not dissolve in water
- Human activities or natural events (e.g factories, home gardeners, gold courses) affect the water systems tremendously
- Area with good facilities have better and cleaner water

Keeping Our Water System Clean
Humans Affected by Detrimental Water Quality
Physical difference between clean and dirty water
Ways to keep our water clean:
- Educate people on clean water to make sure nothing gets into the people's drinking water
- Build in industrial water plantations to filter water before it goes into people's homes
- Stop throwing garbage into water
- Limit on factories to reduce chemicals going into the water system
- Mostly developing countries or third world countries are affected by detrimental water quality
- Sometimes affects developed countries like Canada
- Walkerton's water crisis is one example of water quality affecting many people
- 1/3 of the world's population need special treatment to drink their local water supply
Other Species Affected by Detrimental Water Quality
- Humans aren't the only ones affected by water quality
- Fish can't live in polluted water
- Animals can't drink contaminated water
- Insects can't eat something contaminated with polluted water
Birds affected by oil spills
Walkerton's Water
Disaster
- More than 2300 people became ill
- Cattle manure washed into Walkerton's water supply
- People are still affected by Walkerton's water crisis
