An important part of decomposition is carbon and nitrogen. The carbon and nitrogen cycles are essential for all living organisms on the biosphere. The carbon cycle is based of carbon dioxide, which is in dissolved in the air and water. Carbon makes up all living matter, and is an important part of photosynthesis. Producers use the atmospheric carbon to create oxygen that substain the life of animals and humans. Cellular respiration converts carbohydrates and oxygen into carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Nitrogen is important for all Iiving organisms, because it is an essential component of DNA and proteins. To have the carbon and nitrogen cycles in the biosphere, the scientists must have not only have carbon and nitrogen, but plants, sunlight, precipitation, and soil.
In order to have a garden in your Biosphere, you need to have frequent supply of soil. Therefore, decomposition is a necessity. To start up the decomposition process, the scientists will bring bags filled with leaves from Earth, as well as Fungi, bacteria, and worms. These are all of the elements that make rich soil. Once the scientists arrive at the Biosphere, they should plant a tree to help produce leaves. Trees take about 2 years to grow, so the scientists will need to bring a huge supply of leaves to the moon. They need to produce leaves because leaves are a limited supply, and will eventually run out.

Creating a food source for a biosphere is a very daunting task. You have to make sure you have a good amount of food that offer the right amount of nutrients and protein to survive. In order to have a healthy, balanced diet you need: calcium, protein, zinc, and whole grains. Therefore, the people living on Biosphere 3 would need to create a garden where they would grow crops like wheat, potatoes, corn, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, dried beans, and peas. The wheat would be used for flour, and the way you turn the wheat to flour is by grinding it. These crops would insure that everybody would have the right amount of vegetables and zinc. In order to receive other nutrients, people will take pills for calcium and have protein shakes.
When you are planning a food source for a Biosphere 3 you need to take the fact that you will be spending some time on a spaceship into consideration. Since you will be unable to produce any type of food while on the spacecraft, the people would have to eat different types of space food on their journey.
In biosphere on the moon we would not only need water for ourselves but also for the plants and animals that our coming with us. We can use the condensation from the walls of the biosphere as water, the glass at the top will be cool because the temperature on the moon is colder than it would be inside the biosphere. We can build canals to channel the water to a basin to collect it so that it can be purified for drinking or for watering plants. There will also be a lake/pond and a waterfall located inside the biospheres which will evaporate into the air, as part of the water cycle, and create the condensation. The condensation will be used because it will provide a ongoing supply of water while the waterfall and lake will only provide as much as it holds. Also we could use the frozen water in the craters of the moon, if melted we could get more than 10 to 13 gallons of water that is safe for drinking after being purified.
Having an energy source is crucial to this biosphere. To transform energy, there must a light source. In order to create a light source, there will be a waterfall that will be necessary for energy and be a scenic view for the scientists living inside the biosphere. Under the waterfall, will be turbine, and a turbine has rotating plates which converts potential energy into electrical energy. The force of the water powers the turbine. The turbine will be connected to a generator. Inside the generator is an electric field, and there will be wires attaching the generator to the lights. These lights will power the biosphere, and will create photons which are necessary for photosynthesis. The scientists must bring a lot of light bulbs to power the biosphere. Unfortunately, no rechargeable light bulbs exist, so the scientists would have to use light bulbs with extra long life and are eco-friendly. By replacing a regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent or LED light bulb, scientists would save money and have to bring less bulbs, because those batteries have a long life.
Having breathable is the most critical piece in the biosphere. Without oxygen and carbon dioxide there would be no possible way for us to survive. Oxygen and carbon dioxide would not only have to be brought with us but also maintained at a balance with each other. We would need to use the carbon cycle for this and provide plants and animals that will maintain the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide. For the initial breathing air we can bring oxygen and carbon dioxide in separate tanks that will fill the biosphere. We can then maintain the needed amounts of each by using the carbon cycle to produce oxygen that we can breath in.We will in turn let out carbon dioxide which can be used again by the plants. In addition we will have to have special equipment to monitor the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide just in case there is a problem.
Entertainment is an essential part of every one's life. The psychological make up of a person will be altered if they don’t have it. An art center is important because art is a natural uplifting visual and emotional form of expression. It is a great way to communicate feelings, and it keeps people busy for long periods of time. Television and Ipads are also a great form of entertainment. Watching movies is a great way to pass time in a spaceship. It will take up a lot of time and it will give the astronauts a sense of connection to home. Music Videos, regular music, and the Internet are all forms of entertainment. Music can be uplifting and relaxing, which will make the astronauts more comfortable on the spaceship and in the biosphere.

Exercise is very important, especially when you live in space or a biosphere on the moon. In order for the scientists and astronauts to remain in shape, they must exercise for a good amount of time during this project. While on the biosphere III, everyone must take up either yoga or aerobics because they work out all the key elements in your body that are necessary for remaining healthy. Another form of exercise will be walking around the biosphere. In the biosphere they will build an indoor track which will be open for use throughout this project.
Medicine and health are two very important things to consider while in order to live in a biosphere in space. Due to weightlessness an astronauts can experience a loss of blood volume. This would make them feel dizzy when they stood up on the planet. Weightlessness can also alter sense of balance and they could have trouble feeling the location and placement of their limbs. All of these side effects can be prevented by exercise, and they don’t need medicine to cure them.
On board the spaceship there will be a first aid kit. It will include bandages, cough drops, gauze, a thermometer, Tylenol, a ready-to-go ice pack, disinfectant, benidril and an ace- bandage. All of these are basic health essentials that could keep almost any situation under control until help would be bale to arrive. We will also have an epipen and an asthma pump on the aircraft so that if anyone had an allergic reaction or an asthma attack they would be able to survive. Lastly there will be sleeping pills for all of the astronauts. Everyone’s body needs sleep I order to perform all of its functions. The body runs on a 24 hour wake/ sleep schedule, and in space they experience 16 sunsets a day and a sunrise every 90 minutes. This causes the bodies internal clock to become dysfunctional, therefore, sleeping pills are necessary. Medicine in space is a crucial part of a safe journey.
Astronauts living and working in space actually have the same hygienic needs as us, humans, living on Earth! They go to the bathroom, brush their teeth, wash their hair, and even shave; however, they have different ways of doing these things. They wash their hair with rinse-less shampoo that was originally developed for hospital patients who couldn’t wash their hair. They brush their teeth the same way as we would on earth, and they are even allowed to bring their choice of toothpaste and their own toothbrush. The astronauts have to position themselves on the toilet seat, using leg-restraints and thigh-bars. The toilet basically works like a vacuum cleaner with fans that suck air and waste into the commode. Each astronaut has a personal urinal funnel, which has to be attached to the hose's adapter. Fans suck air and urine through the funnel and hose into the waste water tank.
