Materials
Physical and Chemical change
Match, Chalk, Vinegar, Water, Sucrose, Calcium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate , Test tube, Candle, Mortar, and Pestle.
Purpose- To differentiate between chemical & physical change.
Tell whether it is chemical or physical change and Why?
4. Cooking a hamburger is physically because i am physically change the hamburger from raw to cooked.
5. Solid air freshener is chemical change because the air freshener is change the smell of the air around it.
6. A pane of glass is shattered is physical change because it is now shattered it went from regular glass to broken glass no chemicals included.
Hypothesis- Physical change will happen less than chemical change.
Safety:
*Before lighting the match tie back long hair and secure loose clothing. After extinguishing the match, thoroughly douse it with water before placing it in the designated waste beakers.
*Do not ingest any chemicals.
*Absolutely no goofing off.
Procedures:
Lighting a match- Light a single match (refer to safety precautions listed.)
Lighting a candle- Light a single candle. Observe the candle for 45 seconds.
Crushing chalk- Use a mortar and pestle to crush a piece of chalk.
Mixing crushed chalk with vinegar- In a test tube, mix a small amount of the crushed chalk from activity #3 with vinegar.
Mixing crushed chalk with water- In a test tube, mix a small amount of the crushed chalk from activity #3 with water.
Dissolving sucrose in water- In a test tube, mix a small amount of sucrose in water.
Mixing CaCl2 and Na2CO3 solutions- In a test tube, combine several drops each of the calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate solutions.
Tell whether it is chemical or physical change and Why?
1. A bridge is rusting is physical change because because the rust is physically forming on the bridge.
2. Ice cube melting is chemical change because the ice is changing from a solid state to an liquid state.
3. Mixing backing soda with vinegar is physical change because i am physically mixing the ingredients so the can change.
Conclusion:
There is enough evidence to support my hypothesis that their will be more chemical change than physical change. I have discovered that all the procedure i have taken were mostly chemical changes not physical. So therefore the was enough data to support my hypothesis.
