Europeans during the Middle Ages benefited from Islamic works on:

Architecture/Buildings

Death Toll

  • Christian buildings such as the Cappella Palatina in Palermo, Sicily, incorporated Islamic elements.
  • European castle-building was certainly decisively influenced by the crusaders.
  • The pointed arch idea was taken from the Islamic World and they were started to be made in Churches in Europe.

Some estimates for the death toll in the Crusades suggest that up to 3 million people died, this is around 2.3% of the worlds population at this point.

That is equivalent to around 150 million people today.

However, it is important to remember that the Crusades happened overv 200 years.
