What the heck is social media?

So besides the fact that social media has given me the gift of things like Wikipedia ... 
How does it involve me?
Let's say this is you
But humans are gregarious beings and we like to be part of groups
So this is you in a group
Apparently you joined a boy band
But there are other types of groups...
friends
interests
family
friends
classmates
co-workers
And we communicate with these groups
We make memories and we like to share them with these groups
You're probably thinking, 

"But I'm not ALWAYS in a group or surrounded by people..."
GROUPS
We like to keep in touch with these groups
We like to make plans with these groups
COMMUNICATION & INTERACTION
So this is you without your group. Let's think about the things you normally do.
You wake up in the morning
Maybe you read the news?
You send some emails
While you listen to the radio
Maybe you go to the movies
You eat out
I also check my Google Reader for new blog posts
Pleeease don't say "feeling like P Diddy...

You watch TV
But you don't have to *just* watch TV anymore
TV bore you?
Let's say you want to go out
Hopefully not to see this movie...

This, by the way, is what we call augmented reality. Get used to it.
MEDIA
Then head to an event or a party
And someday... you'll also grow up
Just like the kids in Harry Potter
You'll have a job
Make sure you find one first...
PRODUCTIVITY & UTILITY
You'll drive to your job
You'll have to start your car first
You'll travel
You'll drink coffee more often
You might also start to eat more donuts
Maybe you'll design your own donut

Your dashboard will be hi-tech and snazzy
You'll be able to stay online thanks to in-car Wi-Fi
You will never get lost 
Or you'll drive into a lake like that episode on The Office.
You'll be able to stream music and buy tracks from iTunes right from your car
Too much or pretty sweet?
And to pay for all these things?...
You might not even need a credit card...
And when you go for coffee, maybe you'll want to share your location. 
For giggles...

Notice how most of this is happening right on your mobile?
Get comfortable. More and more of your world will be accessible through your mobile device
You'll capture more and more of your world with your mobile device
You'll interact with the world, more and more, through your mobile device
Like I said at the beginning... all of this requires that you pay attention to more stimuli
Maybe we'll develop a sixth sense to manage all of this
At the very least, we'll have to REthink some things...
