This is the process in
which a caldera is
formed.
Epicenter and arrival time of the tsunami
Experiment about fold formation:
We are going to use a "fold formation
machine".
1st.-
2nd.
Introduce in the "machine" soil layers of different colors.
3rd.-
Turn the screw that moves the vertical wall; moving all the lands.

4rd.-
Now, we can see the fold formations
and the different levels of soils.
It's an easy experiment made by the Tio Jorges' teacher Enrique Campos to his students to understand better the mountain/fold formation:
Internal Geology
Plate tectonic effects:
Orogenies (Mountain Formation
Folds & Faults
Earthquakes
Volcanoes
We are going to visit...
Aragon
Orogenies; Pyrenees:
They were formed in the paleozoic period (between 100-150 millions years ago becouse of the thrust of the Iberian plate.
The pyrenees are older than the alps.

Fold; La adehuela:
It was formed by the folding of metamorphic rocks in the paleozoic.

Earthquakes; in Aragon:
59 aragones' villages have risk of suffer an earthquake.
The last bigger earthquake in Aragon occur in the middle ages on the Maladeta, it destroyed villages and castles.

Volcanoes; Anayet:
It's a remain of a collapsed volcano.
Actually we can see the vent of the ancient volcano.
The Anayet is considered as and ancient caldera.

Spain

Orogenies; Sierra Nevada:
It was formed during the late mesozoic.
It highest peak is Muhalcen (3480m)

Fold; Alto tajo Natural Park:
Formed 300 millions years ago in the paleozoic.
A mountain range was formed by the folding of metamorphic rocks.

Volcano; Teide:
Its 3718m
It remains active.
The most recent eruption occured in 1909.

Earthquakes; Spain:
1775 is the date of the strongest earthquake than affect Spain (apart from Lorca's ones). Was about 9 degrees. It caused a tsunami that destroyed Lisboa and it also affect the coasts of Cadiz & Huelva killing more than 10.000 people.
But nowadays the most active zone of earthquakes in Spain is Murcia.

Orogenies; Alpes:
It was formed during the terciary (65 to 2,5 millions years ago).
It separates a lot of countries, for example: -France and Italy, -Italy and Switzerland...
The highest peak is the Mont Blanck (4810m).

Fold & Fault; Cretes fold & San Andreas Fault:
San Adreas fault:
-It was discovered by a geology teacher in 1895.
-Its movement is about 33 to 37mm per year.
-In 1906 a rupture on it caused a stronger earthquake in the city of San Francisco.

Earthquakes; Japan:
Its in the ring of fire.
The strong more recent earthquake is the Tohoku an earthquake of 9 degrees.

Volcano; Vesuvius:
It is located in Italy.
It is famous for its eruption in 79 AD, this eruption destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. This tows were eventually forgotten until their accidental rediscovery in the 18th century.
More or less every 100 years the Vesuvius erupted.
