As a new teacher, what were some new and innovating resources that you had access to?
Slide Rule: developed in the 1600s for multiplication,
division, roots, algorithms, and trigonometry.
Used until 1974 when the calculator was invented.
Chalkboard: introduced into the US education system in 1801.
SMART Board: interactive whiteboard. Introduced in 1991 by SMART Technologies.
Overhead Projector: first used for training
purposes in WWII, and quickly spread to
use in schools in the 1950's and 60's.

The ballpoint pen as we know it today was patented in 1938 by Laszlo Biro.

The first radio program aired on August 31, 1920.
The first commercially successful typewriter was patented in 1867.

It was Thomas Edison who invented the first motion picture in 1910.
The color television system came in 1940.

The first handheld calculator was invented in 1967.
Charles Ginsburg invented the first video tape recorder (VTR) in 1951.

Mobile phones were first invented in 1947
although cell phones were not sold commercially until 1983.
1968 - The computer mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart.
In1975 the laser printer was invented followed by the invention of the inkjet printer in 1976.
"Back in Gravelbourg, the majority of the teachers were still using the stinky spirit duplicator. Teachers continued to use the duplicator after I got there, I never did use it though."

The first digital computer ENIAC, was invented by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania and began construction in 1943 and was not completed until 1946. It occupied about 1,800 square feet and used about 18,000 vacuum tubes, weighing almost 50 tons.
The photocopier was invented in1937 by Chester F. Carlson

David Gestetner was the inventor of the Gestetner stencil duplicator,
the first piece of office equipment that allowed production of
numerous copies of office documents quickly and inexpensively.
The first technology to project an image using light was the opaque projector, the direct ancestor of the overhead projector. In the late 1800s, these devices were used in lecture halls at major universities and also for amusement.

The Internet was invented in 1957 when the first Sputnik was launched by the Soviet Union and
up until 1992, was located primarily at educational institutions and government facilities.
The online video sharing and viewing community - was invented in 2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. YouTube was named Time Magazine's Invention of the Year in 2006.
Students and parents are able to access class information and grades through the internet... probably the main way I use it, the internet is my first form of communication with other teachers, frequently with parents, and even with students after school hours."

The most innovating resource was the Moodle program I used with my eighth grade ethics unit. It has many possibilities such as on line tests, on line homework, etc. but we used the online dialogue or chat room.

Our intercom system is Voice Over Internet Protocol. In addition to all-call announcements, every teacher has a number. We can call each other, or if someone phones the school they can just get directed to my voicemail. Then I can listen to my messages in my email. -Ms. Schalk
I use Microsoft Word a lot, then I use blogging (Wordpress, Edublogs, and Blogger), Powerpoint, Goanimate (online animation program) and Youtube with the students. -Ms. Gerlach
