WELCOME!
To Our New Elementary Report Card!
We'll begin with our
Philosophy of Grading
We believe the purpose of grading is to communicate
individual academic progress and social development
to students, parents, and teachers. It will also serve as
a means to guide improvement.
A student's progress is measured using the New York State Learning Standards and the Hamburg Central
School curriculum and expectations.
This report card will reflect the extent to which a student
achieves a specific level of knowledge, or skill, based on
standards presented during the grading period.
Rubrics

are an assessment tool used to score or rate
a student's performance using specific
characteristics.
Using rubrics will allow you as parents to see
exactly where your student's strengths are,
and where they need to improve.

A score at this level means
a student has not yet met
grade level standard.
1 - BEGINNING
A score at this level means
a student is making progress toward meeting
the grade level standard.
2 - DEVELOPING
A score at this level means
a student has met the grade level standard. This is the expected level of achievement.
3 - PROFICIENT
A score at this level means
a student is consistently meeting and exceeding grade level standards.
4 - DISTINGUISHED
The following is the scoring scale
being used for the new report card, which represents a student's achievement and effort related to the New York State Standards.

You will learn more about the new report card when
you meet with your child's teacher at your parent teacher
conference in November.
Our report card will contain
rubrics that focus on Reading,
Writing, and Listening skills.
This is a new process for teachers
as well as parents: please, keep that
in mind and be patient as changes
take place.
Thank you!
