Twitter for Teachers

What is Twitter?

"To talk in an excited

or nervous manner."

A micro-blogging service that allows people to type in short messages or status updates that can be read by people following them

Using Twitter

Step 1:

  • Go to www.twitter.com and register.
  • Fill out your profile (this is the first impression people have of you)
  • Add a photo.

Step 2 - Find people to follow

  • Begin with an educator on Twitter you know and begin following them (k_ferrell for example).
  • Look through their followers/who they follow and follow them if they are of interest to you

Step 3

  • Return to your home page and begin watching the tweet stream
  • If you see something interesting, Re-Tweet it (RT)

Share links, share ideas, ask questions, answer questions — anything but “what are you doing?” unless it’s really interesting

Instead of saying "What's Happening?" Twitter should say: WHAT DO YOU KNOW THAT I SHOULD KNOW.
