Assessment Planning
New assessment plan needs to be started for this unit and state that:

In today's session I will be undertaking activities and research that links to criteria 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 4.1 and 4.2

Learning Outcomes 2,3,4 will be directly observed by assessor or work based evidence viewed.
Session Aims:
Learning Outcome 1 - Understand principles of professional development. To have group discussion about the 4 criteria and then for you to have till lunch to work on completing a written account.
Learning Outcome 4 - Be able to improve performance through reflective practice. A look at different models of reflective practice and then for you to spend the afternoon session comparing two models and explaining the importance of reflective practice.
This will complete the written side of the unit and all other criteria will be viewed within the work setting.
Analyse potential barriers to professional development
examine (something) methodically and in detail, typically in order to explain and interpret it.
What are some of the potential barriers you can think of to professional development? We can split these into organisational and personal.
Organisational barriers:
• Poor communication
• Lack of resources or budget
• Staff shortages,
• No encouragement from my manager
• No training opportunities within an organisation or No time to train
• Inadequate supervision or appraisal systems within an organisation
Personal Barriers:
• Low self-esteem to achieve or progress
• Being over confident or stubborn (unwilling to admit training is required)
• Transport problems
• Possible Language barriers
• Childcare issues (when training is arranged childcare not available)
• Health problems
• Conflicting appointments
Compare the use of different sources and systems of support for professional development

The remainder of the morning is your opportunity to complete a written account that covers:

1.2 Analyse potential barriers to professional development - talk about the barriers and some that you have personally faced and how you have overcome these
1.3 Compare the use of different sources and systems of support for professional development - discuss different ways but also consider if they are effective
1.4 Explain factors to consider when selecting opportunities and activities for keeping knowledge and practice up to date
4.1 Compare models of reflective practice
There are many different models of reflective practice.

I will give you an overview of one theorist Donald Schon.
Afterward you need to research another model and compare the two, which would also include you discussing which is more appropriate to your own professional development.
4.2 Explain the importance of reflective practice to improve performance
Why is reflective practice important?
This needs to be written into your account and give examples of when you have used reflective practice to professionally develop
