Welcome to abstraction.
- 00:03 - 00:06
This video is going to serve as an introduction into
- 00:06 - 00:08
what we're going to be doing for the next month,
- 00:08 - 00:11
preparing us for go live on August one.
- 00:13 - 00:17
So what is abstraction abstraction is the process of loading
- 00:17 - 00:18
information into Epic.
- 00:20 - 00:21
It starts on June 28.
- 00:22 - 00:26
Anyone who has completed the abstraction training on litmus, which
- 00:27 - 00:29
is required in order to have access to the system.
- 00:30 - 00:31
To help with the abstraction process.
- 00:32 - 00:35
Let's give some basic abstraction information.
- 00:36 - 00:40
There are two types of abstraction, electronic and manual electronic
- 00:41 - 00:42
or things that come over automatically.
- 00:43 - 00:46
Manual are things that come over but needs a manual
- 00:48 - 00:51
input, meaning you have to either scan or import the
- 00:52 - 00:52
information into Epic.
- 00:53 - 00:56
For example, if there is a pdf version of an
- 00:56 - 00:59
E K G, you need to import that into Epic.
- 01:00 - 01:01
That's a manual abstraction.
- 01:04 - 01:08
There is a process called reconciliation, reconciliation is approving a
- 01:08 - 01:10
piece of data that comes into Epic.
- 01:11 - 01:14
For example, here is a medication epinephrine that can either
- 01:14 - 01:18
be accepted by hitting the plus sign, discarded by hitting
- 01:18 - 01:21
the trash can or it can be left until the
- 01:21 - 01:22
next time.
- 01:25 - 01:26
Let's talk about electronic abstraction.
- 01:27 - 01:33
1st there are items that need reconciliation problems that come
- 01:33 - 01:34
over from G E.
- 01:34 - 01:35
M. R.
- 01:35 - 01:36
Need reconciliation.
- 01:37 - 01:40
You will also have access to care everywhere, which is
- 01:40 - 01:43
all other Epic shops, hospitals, doctor's offices.
- 01:45 - 01:49
That information will arrive into epic after go live on
- 01:49 - 01:49
August one.
- 01:51 - 01:53
Allergies come in from G E.
- 01:53 - 01:58
M. Are also care everywhere after 81 And medications medications
- 01:59 - 02:00
for the last 10 years that are active are also
- 02:00 - 02:02
coming in from G E.
- 02:02 - 02:02
M. R.
- 02:03 - 02:05
In addition, we are getting information from shore scripts.
- 02:06 - 02:10
Sure scripts is a central repository where all electronic prescriptions
- 02:10 - 02:13
are processed Starting on 8 1.
- 02:13 - 02:16
You will have all of your patients last year of
- 02:16 - 02:20
medications. We also have the first two weeks of scheduled
- 02:20 - 02:24
patients that will be imported starting on June 28.
- 02:24 - 02:29
So there will be some information from certain patients, especially
- 02:29 - 02:32
those who have been scheduled for the first two weeks
- 02:32 - 02:33
of august.
- 02:37 - 02:39
There are certain items that do not need reconciliation.
- 02:40 - 02:42
You don't really need to do much with these at
- 02:42 - 02:42
this time.
- 02:43 - 02:44
You can just take a look at them and see
- 02:44 - 02:45
how they look in.
- 02:45 - 02:49
Epic vaccines are coming in from G E.
- 02:49 - 02:49
M. R.
- 02:51 - 02:55
You're also getting vaccines from the state and city information
- 02:56 - 02:58
systems. Those will come in in the middle of august
- 02:59 - 03:04
radiology reports lab and pathology reports that have been ordered
- 03:05 - 03:08
through pro health Will populate directly into epic.
- 03:09 - 03:11
Those will not be there on June 28 but will
- 03:11 - 03:14
be there towards the end of July and vital signs,
- 03:15 - 03:18
pediatric vital signs and some adults vital signs will also
- 03:18 - 03:20
start to populate into epic.
- 03:28 - 03:31
So what should we be doing first for providers?
- 03:33 - 03:35
You should be following the attached tip sheets and video.
- 03:36 - 03:39
You want to log into Epic using your windows username
- 03:39 - 03:39
and password.
- 03:40 - 03:42
Remember if you have not completed the abstraction training on
- 03:43 - 03:44
litmus, you're not going to have access.
- 03:45 - 03:46
So please make sure you do that as soon as
- 03:46 - 03:54
possible. Remember Epic is going to change up until August
- 03:55 - 04:00
one as information gets loaded as content changes, epic might
- 04:00 - 04:01
look different to you.
- 04:01 - 04:02
This is an early access.
- 04:03 - 04:06
We are not yet go live on the entire version
- 04:06 - 04:06
of Epic.
- 04:07 - 04:10
That will be getting so kind of get prepared for
- 04:10 - 04:11
things to look different as we go through the process.
- 04:13 - 04:14
So once you're logged into Epic you want to find
- 04:15 - 04:15
a patient.
- 04:16 - 04:19
The recommendation is to use your schedule from august to
- 04:19 - 04:23
start pre loading or abstracting the patients that you're going
- 04:23 - 04:24
to be seeing first In august.
- 04:25 - 04:28
Use Ge centris city, have your manager print out a
- 04:29 - 04:31
list of patients that are scheduled and use that as
- 04:31 - 04:32
a rough guide.
- 04:34 - 04:37
The schedule itself will change over from GE to Epic
- 04:38 - 04:42
during appointment conversion which is on july 17th and 18th
- 04:43 - 04:45
And starting on July 19, you'll be able to see
- 04:45 - 04:47
your August schedules within epic itself.
- 04:49 - 04:51
Alternatively, you can look for patients that you just know
- 04:52 - 04:54
patients that are frequent flyers that you want to do.
- 04:54 - 04:54
Some abstraction.
- 04:55 - 05:07
Start an abstraction encounter, reconcile medications, allergies, problems, add in
- 05:07 - 05:08
the patient's surgical history.
- 05:08 - 05:10
Risk factors, social history, family history.
- 05:12 - 05:16
Populate important informations and problems using the overview process.
- 05:17 - 05:23
Designate the information for your front desk medical assistance technicians
- 05:23 - 05:25
that work in your office to help you with some
- 05:26 - 05:26
of the manual importing.
- 05:27 - 05:33
Remember. Less is more for the office.
- 05:34 - 05:37
Staff consult with your manager and provider, decide what documents
- 05:38 - 05:39
need to be scanned into Epic.
- 05:40 - 05:41
Again, less is more.
- 05:42 - 05:45
Find a patient Press Control one in epic.
- 05:47 - 05:50
Usually attached worksheets to go through the exact process.
- 05:51 - 05:53
Use the upcoming august scheduled to abstract patients.
- 05:53 - 05:57
You're going to see, Have your manager print out patients
- 05:58 - 06:01
and again start looking for the entire schedule arriving into
- 06:01 - 06:03
epic. Starting on July 19.
- 06:04 - 06:07
After abstraction, I'm sorry.
- 06:07 - 06:11
After appointment conversion weekend on july 17th and 18th.
- 06:13 - 06:15
Okay, let's get started.
