Hey everyone. Thanks for stopping by. My name is Nick Fowler.
- 00:04 - 00:07
And today we're going to be going over how to perfect your home office.
- 00:08 - 00:12
So it's no secret that more people are working from home than ever before.
- 00:12 - 00:14
And according to that research center you saw in the article,
- 00:14 - 00:18
59% of people are choosing to become teleworkers in 2022.
- 00:18 - 00:20
Um, and this is for many reasons, right?
- 00:20 - 00:21
Many benefits,
- 00:21 - 00:25
including commutes home work balance and a lot of people are even more productive.
- 00:25 - 00:26
Um,
- 00:26 - 00:28
a 2020 survey conducted by the Chicago
- 00:28 - 00:31
Booth and Mexico Autonomous Institute of Technology was
- 00:31 - 00:35
also in the article found that 40% of workers were more productive from home.
- 00:37 - 00:41
So let's get into it. What's one of the first ways to protect your home office?
- 00:41 - 00:43
Well, number one is gonna be scheduling apps.
- 00:43 - 00:46
Now, I'm biased because I work with calendar dot com,
- 00:46 - 00:49
but really any scheduling app is, is key.
- 00:49 - 00:52
Um, and one of the main keys of this is time blocking, right?
- 00:52 - 00:54
So blocking your time and make sure that
- 00:54 - 00:55
you're really doing what you're supposed to be doing
- 00:56 - 00:56
right?
- 00:56 - 00:57
If you have the idea that you're just going to
- 00:57 - 00:59
go through your day and just know what you're doing,
- 00:59 - 01:00
you're kind of kidding yourself.
- 01:00 - 01:00
Right?
- 01:00 - 01:02
So really set, you know,
- 01:02 - 01:06
9 to 10 doing this and 11 doing this block off your counter to other meetings if you
- 01:06 - 01:08
need to and just really blocking your time to
- 01:08 - 01:11
make sure you're becoming as time efficient as possible
- 01:11 - 01:13
and schedule you guys help with that, right?
- 01:13 - 01:15
That's one of the main benefits of the scheduling apps story.
- 01:15 - 01:17
You can choose when people can sign up on your calendar.
- 01:17 - 01:20
Um and when they cannot with these calendar
- 01:20 - 01:23
apps are scheduling apps um some are free,
- 01:23 - 01:24
most of them have a free version.
- 01:24 - 01:25
If anything,
- 01:25 - 01:28
they're a freemium model and some have advanced features that
- 01:28 - 01:30
do come with a cost but also provide a lot more
- 01:30 - 01:32
robust functionality.
- 01:34 - 01:35
Number two, ergonomic furniture.
- 01:35 - 01:37
This one's kind of easy to skip right something you
- 01:37 - 01:39
don't really necessarily think of right from the beginning,
- 01:39 - 01:43
but this does help with your posture, which does help you become more productive?
- 01:43 - 01:46
Probably ask yourself well how does that really happen with better posture?
- 01:46 - 01:48
You're gonna have less back pain unless back
- 01:48 - 01:50
pain is gonna help you become more productive.
- 01:51 - 01:54
One of the best pieces of furniture you can do for this is the standing desk, right,
- 01:54 - 01:56
and that we can go up and down with comfort.
- 01:56 - 01:59
You know, if you've been slashing for a while you might stand up for an hour,
- 01:59 - 02:00
get your blood circulating all the
- 02:00 - 02:01
time
- 02:01 - 02:02
and things like that.
- 02:02 - 02:05
A lot of those things are really gonna help you with your posture,
- 02:05 - 02:08
back pain and overall will help your productivity.
- 02:09 - 02:11
So number three, office lighting,
- 02:12 - 02:15
natural light or artificial light can really help you become more productive.
- 02:15 - 02:17
This is kind of another one that you might not necessarily think
- 02:17 - 02:20
right off the bat as something that's gonna really help your productivity.
- 02:21 - 02:23
Um but really the biggest one here is mood, right?
- 02:23 - 02:27
Like natural sunlight or artificial light is really going to help your
- 02:27 - 02:30
mood and having a good mood really does boost your productivity.
- 02:30 - 02:33
Another reason that it really can help your productivity
- 02:33 - 02:35
is it's going to help with your eye strain,
- 02:35 - 02:36
right?
- 02:36 - 02:40
You're in bad lighting or in a dark room or too bright room and got a bad glare,
- 02:40 - 02:44
you're gonna run into ice cream, get a headache, not gonna be as much as productive.
- 02:44 - 02:46
Um kind of the last thing you want to do is make
- 02:46 - 02:48
sure that that's what you do have doesn't have a glare.
- 02:48 - 02:51
Right? So one of the best things that I would consider doing is get a lamp shade
- 02:54 - 02:57
number four, smart connectivity let technology be your friend.
- 02:57 - 03:02
Right, um smart TVs and monitors now really do help things help you multitask,
- 03:02 - 03:05
you have several things going on each screen at one time,
- 03:05 - 03:08
um The screens can talk to each other if they have smart tv technology,
- 03:08 - 03:10
your smart monitor technology, things like that.
- 03:10 - 03:12
One of the most common ones is earbuds, right?
- 03:12 - 03:16
Earbuds is a great piece of technology that can help you stay connected and focused.
- 03:16 - 03:20
Um earbuds are for one for noise control and two so that you can just have
- 03:20 - 03:22
hands free communication um to be able to
- 03:22 - 03:24
multitask and be as productive as possible.
- 03:25 - 03:28
Sports speakers are kind of a newer and big thing has taken over,
- 03:28 - 03:30
Right and if you get one of these speakers
- 03:30 - 03:33
they can really act as your personal assistant.
- 03:33 - 03:33
Um Right.
- 03:33 - 03:37
They can really help control things, you can have them call of the devices,
- 03:37 - 03:39
call upon devices, do things for you,
- 03:39 - 03:44
make calls um and have one central hub that's controlling all of your other devices.
- 03:45 - 03:48
Okay. Number five improve air quality.
- 03:48 - 03:51
Uh This is a really big one for me, that was that you know,
- 03:51 - 03:54
it's something I really didn't think about first and then the more I read about it,
- 03:54 - 03:55
the more it really does make sense, right?
- 03:55 - 03:58
I mean bad air quality can make you mean one,
- 03:58 - 04:02
it can make you sick um and then obviously being sick is going to be less productive.
- 04:02 - 04:04
You can also just make you feel just donkey, right?
- 04:04 - 04:08
Even if overall sick, you might not realize it, but you are feeling worse.
- 04:09 - 04:10
So how do you prevent this?
- 04:10 - 04:13
And a lot of the main ways to make sure you have good ventilation right?
- 04:13 - 04:17
Um and in your home office make sure that your furniture is not blocking any events or
- 04:17 - 04:19
returns and that way the air is circulating
- 04:19 - 04:21
cleanly efficiently and you'll be good to go.
- 04:21 - 04:23
Um And the last thing that you can really
- 04:23 - 04:24
do to make sure that you're doing this correctly,
- 04:24 - 04:25
just get your unit service,
- 04:25 - 04:27
get your age back and furnace and furnace
- 04:27 - 04:30
um inspected regularly what it needs to be and
- 04:30 - 04:32
just make sure you're changing out your filters and
- 04:32 - 04:34
all that good stuff to make sure everything's running
- 04:34 - 04:35
top notch
- 04:36 - 04:36
alright.
- 04:36 - 04:42
Number six and kind of you know just overall right, just make the room flow,
- 04:42 - 04:44
organize your space so that it makes sense right?
- 04:44 - 04:46
And I'm not a very organized person,
- 04:46 - 04:49
something that I really have to work on um is the organization to
- 04:49 - 04:53
make sure I missed breakfast possible and my office space was no exception,
- 04:53 - 04:53
right?
- 04:53 - 04:56
I kind of just had stuff in there willy nilly um as long as
- 04:56 - 04:58
I thought I had my desk and chairs and printer and all that stuff,
- 04:58 - 05:01
as long as it was somewhere in the office, I was like that works right,
- 05:01 - 05:03
but really it makes a big difference if you just take
- 05:03 - 05:05
the time to make your office flow and make sense,
- 05:05 - 05:08
make sure that if you do or you're printing things all the time,
- 05:08 - 05:11
they don't have to get up from your desk every single time to get things and come back,
- 05:11 - 05:14
it sounds kind of tedious and not a big deal
- 05:14 - 05:16
but really things like that really do start to have a
- 05:17 - 05:19
start to have a negative effect on your productivity,
- 05:19 - 05:23
so set your room up or your office up to really make sense, make things flow together,
- 05:23 - 05:24
work together
- 05:25 - 05:28
um and everything will really go a lot, a lot smoother,
- 05:29 - 05:31
so overall kind of the bottom line, right?
- 05:31 - 05:33
It just don't make your home office an afterthought, you know,
- 05:33 - 05:36
it's kind of can be easy to not put that much time into it
- 05:36 - 05:39
as you would as like a regular office and like an office building,
- 05:39 - 05:42
but you are working there right, this is your your office now,
- 05:42 - 05:44
if you're if you're working from home so you need to
- 05:44 - 05:48
put as much time in creating that space as you would
- 05:49 - 05:53
from a regular home office um It's important, it's important for productivity,
- 05:53 - 05:56
especially at home for me because you know you have a lot more distractions at home,
- 05:56 - 05:58
so it really is even more important I think to have
- 05:59 - 06:02
your home office be as productive as possible and just set up properly
- 06:02 - 06:04
and and going over all the things that we just went over.
- 06:04 - 06:05
So really,
- 06:05 - 06:07
I mean put in some initial time and effort and
- 06:07 - 06:10
maximizing the efficiency of the space and it will pay off
- 06:11 - 06:13
um so that kind of wraps it up guys,
- 06:13 - 06:15
I really appreciate you stopping by and reading
- 06:15 - 06:16
the article and checking out the video.
- 06:17 - 06:19
Um We'll see you soon have it going guys
