Yes,
- 00:07 - 00:09
hello, I'm Austin Roberts. And
- 00:09 - 00:11
today I'm gonna be talking to you guys about why
- 00:12 - 00:15
everyone uh who works should have a three day weekend
- 00:15 - 00:17
who loves working
- 00:17 - 00:20
five days and only having two days off for your weekend. Anyone
- 00:21 - 00:23
who wants to live a less stressful life
- 00:24 - 00:26
and have better mental health by only working
- 00:27 - 00:29
uh four days out of the week and having a three day weekend.
- 00:29 - 00:33
If you said yes, then I think you guys need to be working three day weekends.
- 00:33 - 00:36
Uh I'm gonna be talking to you guys about uh
- 00:36 - 00:39
the benefits for the employer of why you should work three day weekends,
- 00:39 - 00:42
benefits for you as the employee and also
- 00:42 - 00:44
how it's gonna improve you guys' mental health.
- 00:45 - 00:47
So let's talk about the benefits for the employer
- 00:49 - 00:50
employees.
- 00:50 - 00:54
Uh When you guys go to work, employers want employees to work at the top of their,
- 00:54 - 00:58
of their game and create good product for that company
- 00:58 - 01:00
to bring in the most revenue that they can.
- 01:00 - 01:04
Uh what employers do, they seek out new methods to try to
- 01:04 - 01:06
uh reach productivity employees,
- 01:06 - 01:10
but they often overlook that these employees are overworked, they're tired
- 01:11 - 01:12
and it's hard for them to,
- 01:12 - 01:15
to give a good product because of those things I just mentioned.
- 01:16 - 01:21
Well, Tara mcadams wrote an article on about leaders
- 01:21 - 01:22
and it's a study
- 01:23 - 01:29
that um said that if you work 32 hours in a work week or less,
- 01:29 - 01:31
that creates optimal productivity
- 01:32 - 01:36
for the employee to help the employer out.
- 01:36 - 01:39
Uh She also found out that it motivates employees.
- 01:40 - 01:42
It there's higher job satisfaction
- 01:43 - 01:46
with the employees working that job
- 01:48 - 01:49
and the employees get
- 01:50 - 01:53
get more done in four days instead of five.
- 01:53 - 01:57
There was also in that same article, she spoke to the CEO of base camp,
- 01:57 - 01:59
which is a company here in the United States.
- 01:59 - 02:01
His name is Jason Fried.
- 02:01 - 02:01
And
- 02:02 - 02:04
he stated again,
- 02:04 - 02:08
like I just mentioned that employees get more done in four days instead of five,
- 02:09 - 02:10
he stated that he started
- 02:12 - 02:17
on taking like the first Friday off of each month and
- 02:17 - 02:20
started slow and see how that would progress his product.
- 02:20 - 02:21
And he said that
- 02:22 - 02:26
he saw a huge difference in the the employees.
- 02:26 - 02:29
And so he started to give them four day work weeks
- 02:29 - 02:32
and he said he would never go back and he absolutely loves it.
- 02:33 - 02:36
So that's a little bit about how it's gonna help the employ
- 02:36 - 02:40
employer. Let's talk about how it's gonna help the employee.
- 02:41 - 02:46
Uh Melissa Dahl uh wrote an article uh and she stated that
- 02:46 - 02:50
there is a non for profit company called Families and Work Institute
- 02:50 - 02:51
and in that
- 02:52 - 02:53
uh survey,
- 02:53 - 02:55
they found that 43%
- 02:56 - 02:59
of the over 1000 employers that were surveyed,
- 02:59 - 03:02
offered shortened work work weeks to only certain
- 03:02 - 03:03
individuals.
- 03:11 - 03:14
In the. Also in that article, uh
- 03:14 - 03:16
they asked about, uh,
- 03:17 - 03:18
a study
- 03:18 - 03:20
and instead of asking the employer,
- 03:20 - 03:23
they asked employees and they asked over 600,000
- 03:23 - 03:27
Americans, Europeans, Australian men and women.
- 03:28 - 03:32
And they said they found that people that work less than 55 hours a week,
- 03:32 - 03:33
uh are, uh I'm sorry,
- 03:33 - 03:39
that work more than 55 hours a week are 33% increased risk of having a stroke.
- 03:39 - 03:43
And within that 33% there's a 13% greater risk
- 03:43 - 03:45
of having um heart disease.
- 03:48 - 03:51
Also. Uh There's another uh
- 03:51 - 03:54
website that I read. It was called the Sleep Journal.
- 03:54 - 03:56
They interviewed 10,000
- 03:56 - 03:57
American workers
- 03:58 - 03:59
and they found that
- 04:01 - 04:05
of those who were work less than 40 hours a week, they slept more,
- 04:05 - 04:07
they fell asleep faster and they were more refreshed when
- 04:07 - 04:09
they woke up and ready to go to work.
- 04:11 - 04:14
There's another study that was done by Harvard
- 04:14 - 04:17
Business School and up in Boston,
- 04:17 - 04:17
they,
- 04:18 - 04:19
they did a, a
- 04:19 - 04:21
study from a consultant group.
- 04:21 - 04:23
They took two groups of employees,
- 04:23 - 04:27
one employee group had no days off and they worked five days in a row.
- 04:27 - 04:28
The other group
- 04:28 - 04:31
they had one day off in the middle of the work week.
- 04:32 - 04:34
After that five months was done.
- 04:34 - 04:36
The Harvard Business School,
- 04:38 - 04:41
uh asked the customers of that consultant group,
- 04:41 - 04:45
what they noticed and they all said that there was an improvement in service with
- 04:45 - 04:48
the people that had that one extra day off in the middle of the week.
- 04:51 - 04:55
So that's a little bit about how it's can help you as the employee.
- 04:55 - 04:57
Uh Let's talk about now
- 04:58 - 05:00
how it's going to help your mental health.
- 05:02 - 05:05
So why do we need thir three day weekends
- 05:05 - 05:07
uh time between
- 05:07 - 05:09
uh, your work week is shorter.
- 05:09 - 05:12
Uh You're not only having two days off, you're having three days off.
- 05:12 - 05:16
Uh So that's a positive that you are getting that extra day off.
- 05:17 - 05:18
Have you guys,
- 05:18 - 05:23
uh, ever heard of the Sunday scaries or the Monday morning blues?
- 05:23 - 05:24
Well, that's a real thing, uh,
- 05:24 - 05:29
that affects people going into work and it causes workplace anxiety
- 05:29 - 05:30
and
- 05:30 - 05:31
the,
- 05:33 - 05:36
the product that those employees get is not
- 05:36 - 05:38
as good because they're anxious about work.
- 05:38 - 05:40
They're tired and they haven't been able to catch
- 05:40 - 05:43
up on their sleep from that previous work week.
- 05:43 - 05:45
Noga spare, uh,
- 05:46 - 05:48
wrote an article on reflect dot com
- 05:48 - 05:50
and she, uh, did a study
- 05:50 - 05:54
and she found that 80% of the Americans asked if they
- 05:54 - 05:57
could take a getaway on the weekend, could and they said
- 05:57 - 06:01
yes. And then they would come back rejuvenated from that getaway
- 06:02 - 06:04
with that getaway.
- 06:04 - 06:08
It was easier because they had three days to just go and do a short trip.
- 06:08 - 06:11
It's affordable and it's less stressful than taking seven
- 06:11 - 06:15
days off in your week and planning this huge trip
- 06:15 - 06:16
and it's just not
- 06:17 - 06:18
as convenient
- 06:18 - 06:22
as having just that quick, get away, quick reset
- 06:23 - 06:24
to get back to your work week.
- 06:25 - 06:29
The last thing I wanna talk about is the word presenteeism.
- 06:30 - 06:33
Uh I'm gonna read the definition so I don't get it wrong.
- 06:33 - 06:34
Uh, presenteeism,
- 06:34 - 06:40
the act or culture of employees continuing to work as performance drops.
- 06:40 - 06:43
Uh This can be caused by multiple things caused by illness, ex
- 06:44 - 06:47
exhaustion from work or some other outside factors.
- 06:47 - 06:51
Um In my personal life, I've seen this, people just want to keep working
- 06:51 - 06:56
and they don't want to take that time off to reset and recoup for that work week.
- 06:56 - 06:58
And so some of their product drops,
- 06:59 - 07:02
uh The UK in 2012 did a study and
- 07:02 - 07:06
estimated that it could cost their economy three times more
- 07:06 - 07:10
than absenteeism, which is people just not showing up to work.
- 07:10 - 07:12
So people that actually do show up to work who are tired
- 07:13 - 07:13
and
- 07:14 - 07:16
aren't ready is gonna cost the company more.
- 07:16 - 07:17
So, getting your mental health,
- 07:17 - 07:20
getting that quick reset before going to work and
- 07:20 - 07:22
having that three day weekend is extremely important.
- 07:25 - 07:30
So what we talked about, uh we talked about how it would benefit your employer,
- 07:30 - 07:33
having that quick reset uh would make you give
- 07:33 - 07:36
that good product to the employer so they could
- 07:36 - 07:38
uh continue having their company.
- 07:38 - 07:41
We talked about how it's gonna affect you as the employee,
- 07:41 - 07:44
you would, you have higher job satisfaction.
- 07:44 - 07:44
Uh,
- 07:44 - 07:46
you want to be so stressed out and we have
- 07:46 - 07:48
talked about how it's gonna affect your mental health.
- 07:48 - 07:51
Uh by, you can take these short weekend getaway trips
- 07:51 - 07:54
to reset and rejuvenate for your job.
- 07:54 - 07:58
Hopefully, in this quick presentation, I've persuaded you guys that, yeah,
- 07:58 - 08:01
having a three day weekend is something that you want to do and I appreciate you,
- 08:01 - 08:03
appreciate you guys listening.
