Hello everyone. My name is Rafael Duarte. Uh this is M. P A 5 20 with dr Kataria.
- 00:07 - 00:12
This presentation is due today which is 21 May 2022
- 00:13 - 00:19
and I will be covering leadership within cern marks or a timeline
- 00:19 - 00:26
and my crisis um is an earthquake. An earthquake here in the Coachella Valley area.
- 00:27 - 00:28
So let's begin.
- 00:31 - 00:35
So my first style of leadership, which would occur on the three hour mark,
- 00:35 - 00:38
would be more of a directive style
- 00:38 - 00:41
directive style and also autocratic.
- 00:41 - 00:43
And the reason that I would be using these
- 00:43 - 00:45
is because on a directive style of leadership,
- 00:46 - 00:49
the leader is expected to tell people what to do
- 00:49 - 00:52
by assigning tasks and doing that
- 00:53 - 00:54
in an immediate manner
- 00:54 - 00:58
and also providing them with guidance and directions regarding those tasks.
- 00:59 - 01:04
And in regards to autocratic leadership. The reason I chose this one is because
- 01:04 - 01:08
autocratic leaders are great for making very quick
- 01:08 - 01:13
decisions and in a crisis like an earthquake,
- 01:13 - 01:15
quick decisions are going to have to happen
- 01:15 - 01:17
after that throughout the three hour mark.
- 01:17 - 01:19
Especially considering that
- 01:20 - 01:22
there'll probably be a lot of mayhem,
- 01:24 - 01:28
communications would be down, power would be down gas lines would be down.
- 01:29 - 01:32
So we would have to take some immediate action.
- 01:32 - 01:35
Um and there would be no time for
- 01:35 - 01:36
ah
- 01:37 - 01:38
extensive collaboration.
- 01:42 - 01:49
And then at the three day mark um during this earthquake, we will
- 01:50 - 01:52
start to incorporate another style of leadership
- 01:52 - 01:55
that being transactional and also a network leadership
- 01:56 - 01:58
and I chose these because
- 01:59 - 02:02
transaction was really focused on,
- 02:02 - 02:07
on fulfilling those three first needs based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs,
- 02:07 - 02:08
which is a
- 02:09 - 02:12
physiological safety and also belonging
- 02:13 - 02:18
and we have and if you think of it from an earthquake standpoint,
- 02:18 - 02:21
people are going to need water, they're not gonna need food,
- 02:21 - 02:24
they're gonna need shelter, they're gonna need safety and security.
- 02:24 - 02:28
All these things are going to need need to be addressed right away at the
- 02:28 - 02:31
three day mark and we have to be able to provide this type of leadership.
- 02:31 - 02:34
So the followers understand our community members understand
- 02:35 - 02:37
um that we're trying to fulfill these needs
- 02:37 - 02:39
or the leaders trying to fulfill these needs
- 02:40 - 02:42
and then the network would be more of
- 02:43 - 02:45
of engaging
- 02:46 - 02:50
other agencies organizations to work collaboratively to cooperate
- 02:50 - 02:53
with us on projects that we're trying to accomplish
- 02:53 - 02:55
Within the three day Mark
- 02:57 - 03:01
And then moving on to the three week mark.
- 03:01 - 03:04
The leadership style will then move into more
- 03:04 - 03:07
of a democratic and also a charismatic leadership
- 03:08 - 03:11
and the democratic style of leadership is where
- 03:12 - 03:15
the leader is going to be asking others for their input,
- 03:15 - 03:17
asking for some ideas
- 03:18 - 03:19
and um
- 03:20 - 03:22
and just really try to get the feel of
- 03:22 - 03:27
the community members to engage in the participative process of
- 03:28 - 03:29
of um
- 03:29 - 03:33
of coming up with some of these strategies and ideas to to address
- 03:34 - 03:38
the needs of the community based on the earthquake crisis.
- 03:38 - 03:41
We're gonna need a charismatic leader at the three week mark,
- 03:41 - 03:44
somebody who is going to provide that spark,
- 03:44 - 03:48
somebody who's going to be very engaged with the people uh to motivate them
- 03:49 - 03:56
because at this point again, they might not have some of those basic needs yet,
- 03:56 - 03:59
and the charismatic leader is going to have to engage
- 03:59 - 04:01
them and motivate them at the three week mark,
- 04:03 - 04:06
And then at the three month mark, um
- 04:07 - 04:12
the leadership style will move to more of a transformation and strategic style.
- 04:12 - 04:15
The transformational style of leadership is
- 04:16 - 04:18
really trying to empower people,
- 04:19 - 04:22
so they start to take over some of these projects,
- 04:22 - 04:25
so they're fully engaged and they feel empowered to
- 04:25 - 04:27
start to make these decisions on their own,
- 04:28 - 04:32
by not by not just falling under the transaction or their
- 04:32 - 04:36
only meeting the first three basic needs of Maslow Maslow's hierarchy,
- 04:37 - 04:41
but they're meeting all the basic needs of Maslow's hierarchy
- 04:41 - 04:45
when it comes to um esteem and self actualization,
- 04:45 - 04:50
meaning an empowering them to really be proactive leaders within their community.
- 04:51 - 04:55
Um and also also the strategic style which would be
- 04:55 - 04:58
to realign resources um
- 04:58 - 05:02
through the recovery effort effort, sorry, and create a vision plan.
- 05:03 - 05:08
Um and then also to bring people together as part of the relief and built in
- 05:09 - 05:12
building an architectural process of the relief effort.
- 05:17 - 05:20
So I just want to thank you all for watching my presentation.
- 05:20 - 05:25
I hope it was helpful and I hope I broke down the timeline of the three hour,
- 05:25 - 05:25
the three day,
- 05:25 - 05:27
the three week and the three month mark and the
- 05:27 - 05:30
different types of leaderships that apply to each one.
- 05:30 - 05:32
So thank you everyone and God bless.
- 05:32 - 05:36
And also I apologize for the further reflection reflection here on my glasses.
- 05:36 - 05:38
Take care. Bye!
