Hello,

presented by South Point Catholic High School.
- 00:06 - 00:09
This presentation will go over the two
- 00:09 - 00:11
main options that South Point Catholic families use
- 00:12 - 00:15
to make a South Point Catholic education possible
- 00:15 - 00:17
for every student regardless of economic background.
- 00:18 - 00:20

- 00:39 - 00:44
academic or ethnic backgrounds. 99% of our graduates attend college,
- 00:45 - 00:46
we are committed
- 00:46 - 00:49
to ensuring that admitted students have the opportunity
- 00:49 - 00:51
to attend South Point Catholic High School.
- 00:51 - 00:53
Regardless of economic circumstances,
- 00:55 - 00:58
you can also help by donating your tax credits.
- 00:59 - 01:02
If you're involved in an S Corp or AC Corp,
- 01:02 - 01:05
you can donate your tax dollars to South Point Catholic High School.
- 01:05 - 01:08
Please contact Jen Harris our Director of Advancement.
- 01:12 - 01:12
But overall,
- 01:12 - 01:16
let's look at the two main options that families utilize
- 01:16 - 01:19
for tuition assistance for South Point Catholic High School.
- 01:19 - 01:23
It's important to note that Arizona is a school choice state
- 01:24 - 01:24
which means
- 01:25 - 01:29
families have the opportunity to attend a variety of schools
- 01:30 - 01:34
which are either totally financed or partially financed through the
- 01:34 - 01:35
Arizona State government.
- 01:36 - 01:38
The first option that we're going to
- 01:38 - 01:40
look at is the empowerment scholarship accounts.
- 01:41 - 01:44
This is a relatively new universal program
- 01:44 - 01:45
where families
- 01:46 - 01:50
can qualify for direct tuition assistance directly from the state of Arizona.
- 01:51 - 01:54
Option two is the traditional financial aid
- 01:54 - 01:57
scholarship tuition organizations or tax credits.
- 01:57 - 01:59
And we'll view both of these options.
- 02:00 - 02:01
It's also important to note
- 02:01 - 02:05
that while you can apply for each option, option one and option two,
- 02:06 - 02:09
you cannot accept both options for the same school year.
- 02:09 - 02:14
Thus, if you decide to go with ES A, the empowerment scholarship accounts,
- 02:14 - 02:19
you cannot also receive financial aid scholarship tuition organization
- 02:19 - 02:22
awards or tax credits.
- 02:24 - 02:28
Option one for our families is the empowerment scholarship accounts.
- 02:29 - 02:30
This is a direct account
- 02:30 - 02:35
given by the state of Arizona for families that wish to leave public education.
- 02:36 - 02:38
If families choose to leave public education,
- 02:38 - 02:41
they simply apply through the Department of Education website,
- 02:41 - 02:44
they will receive a contract and the state
- 02:44 - 02:46
will provide a certain amount of money per year
- 02:46 - 02:49
for that student to attend a private school.
- 02:49 - 02:53
Usually empowerment scholarships are worth about $7600 a year.
- 02:54 - 02:57
But again, if you choose the empowerment scholarship account option,
- 02:59 - 03:03
this is the only thing you can do for scholarship assistance during the school year.
- 03:06 - 03:09
So how it works by opting out of the public school system,
- 03:09 - 03:12
parents can seek a range of alternative educational services
- 03:12 - 03:15
such as private schools or home based education.
- 03:15 - 03:17
Again, you cannot combine this with option two.
- 03:19 - 03:20
So here's how you apply.
- 03:21 - 03:28
This is going to be available in the spring of 2025 for the 2025 2026 school year.
- 03:28 - 03:30
You simply go to
- 03:30 - 03:33
the Arizona Department of Education. The ES A
- 03:33 - 03:34
website,
- 03:35 - 03:37
you choose the universal option and you upload
- 03:37 - 03:39
a birth certificate and proof of residency.
- 03:40 - 03:41
Once you do this,
- 03:42 - 03:44
you will get approved for a contract,
- 03:45 - 03:47
you'll read through the contract which will go through in a second,
- 03:48 - 03:49
digitally sign it
- 03:49 - 03:52
and that will go back to the state indicating that you
- 03:52 - 03:56
are going to leave public education for the next school year
- 03:56 - 03:57
and enter a private school
- 03:59 - 04:03
later on over the summer. You'll get a what's called a class wallet account.
- 04:03 - 04:06
This is actually where you transfer money
- 04:06 - 04:09
to help pay for your students, private school education
- 04:10 - 04:14
and you'll have to do this each quarter because that is how ES A is funded,
- 04:14 - 04:17
it's funded on a quarterly basis throughout the year.
- 04:18 - 04:20
So it's also important to note that the contract you
- 04:20 - 04:23
receive from ES A is worded in such a way.
- 04:24 - 04:29
What parents automatically do is they look at the number on the contract,
- 04:29 - 04:33
they don't read through all of the different sentences in the contract.
- 04:34 - 04:36
So as you see in this sample,
- 04:36 - 04:40
this student was accept, was accepted for an ES A account.
- 04:41 - 04:43
And on a quarterly basis, they receive
- 04:43 - 04:46
$1966.35.
- 04:48 - 04:51
A lot of times when parents get a contract,
- 04:51 - 04:55
they look at that amount and they immediately call South Point Catholic saying,
- 04:55 - 04:56
well,
- 04:56 - 04:59
I thought you said this was gonna be worth about $7500.
- 05:00 - 05:03
Unfortunately, those parents didn't read the entire sentence
- 05:03 - 05:06
that $1966.35
- 05:06 - 05:09
is awarded on a quarterly basis.
- 05:09 - 05:11
Thus, if you take that number and you times it by four,
- 05:12 - 05:15
you're you're now suddenly up to the high 7000 area.
- 05:16 - 05:22
The amounts of this are purely based on your zip code and address.
- 05:23 - 05:26
You do not have to upload tax documents. You do not have to
- 05:27 - 05:29
provide any other financial information.
- 05:29 - 05:32
All the state needs is a copy of your student's birth certificate
- 05:32 - 05:35
and a current proof of residency.
- 05:36 - 05:40
It's also important to note that if your student has a 504
- 05:40 - 05:42
plan or an IE plan where they
- 05:43 - 05:46
get extra educational accommodations,
- 05:46 - 05:49
you can upload this information into your ES
- 05:49 - 05:53
A portal as those students usually receive more money
- 05:53 - 05:56
to cover those educational accommodation expenses.
- 05:59 - 06:01
So again, this is option one,
- 06:01 - 06:02
the ES A
- 06:05 - 06:09
Sorry about this. I pressed the wrong button as you can see this was recorded
- 06:11 - 06:12
in person by a live human being.
- 06:13 - 06:14
All right.
- 06:14 - 06:15
The next option.
- 06:16 - 06:18
This is traditional financial aid
- 06:19 - 06:23
the use of scholarship, tuition organizations and tax credits.
- 06:23 - 06:25
Now, for option two,
- 06:25 - 06:27
these can be combined and stacked together,
- 06:27 - 06:30
which means based on a student's educational need,
- 06:30 - 06:34
you can receive a financial aid award from South Point Catholic.
- 06:35 - 06:38
You can also receive scholarships from tuition organizations
- 06:38 - 06:42
and you can utilize the tax credit program in the state of Arizona.
- 06:43 - 06:48
However, you cannot combine these with option one, which is the ES A
- 06:50 - 06:52
so traditional financial aid.
- 06:52 - 06:55
This is what a lot of parents know as
- 06:55 - 06:58
how you get assistance from a private school.
- 06:58 - 07:01
This is purely based on a student's need
- 07:02 - 07:06
or the family's need on how to pay for a private school education.
- 07:06 - 07:08
So South Point Catholics is
- 07:09 - 07:11
supported through CTSL
- 07:11 - 07:17
and newly admitted students and current students qualify for on the on the basis of
- 07:17 - 07:20
demonstrated need as determined by factors such as
- 07:20 - 07:24
income, family size assets, liabilities, et cetera.
- 07:24 - 07:28
These awards can range anywhere from 1000 to $7000.
- 07:28 - 07:31
You can combine these with the other things in option two,
- 07:31 - 07:35
these are need based awards and you must apply every single year.
- 07:36 - 07:39
How do you apply? You can actually do this right now.
- 07:40 - 07:42
You can go to the fair website,
- 07:43 - 07:47
use South Point school code of 800 in the password CTSL 800.
- 07:48 - 07:50
You fill out the online application.
- 07:50 - 07:53
All right, click yes, on the request financial aid
- 07:53 - 07:56
and be sure to select the 2526 school year
- 07:57 - 08:00
over 400 students were helped this year alone
- 08:00 - 08:03
with over $3 million in tuition assistance.
- 08:07 - 08:08
So
- 08:08 - 08:09
the next thing
- 08:09 - 08:12
that families utilizing option two can do
- 08:13 - 08:16
is they can contact scholarship tuition organizations.
- 08:17 - 08:18
What these are
- 08:19 - 08:23
is these are organizations that direct tax credits
- 08:23 - 08:28
to Children attending grades K through 12 at a qualified private school
- 08:28 - 08:29
in Arizona.
- 08:31 - 08:35
This is just a simple list of some ST Os in Arizona.
- 08:35 - 08:39
I believe there's over 60 ST Os in the state of Arizona.
- 08:39 - 08:42
So obviously, this isn't the entire list,
- 08:42 - 08:48
but this is a list of a lot of the ST Os that South Point Catholic families utilize
- 08:48 - 08:49
throughout the school year.
- 08:49 - 08:53
You can see that they all have different websites, they all have different
- 08:53 - 08:56
application opening dates, et cetera
- 08:56 - 08:58
and the majority of these are
- 08:58 - 09:01
are available based on household income.
- 09:02 - 09:04
So if you want more information about these,
- 09:04 - 09:08
please contact the individual sto for more information or
- 09:08 - 09:11
you can contact our financial aid office and they can help guide you
- 09:12 - 09:15
to which ST Os may be best for you and your family.
- 09:18 - 09:19
Now,
- 09:19 - 09:22
the last part of option two are tax credits.
- 09:22 - 09:27
This is also known as the recommended referral program for the State of Arizona.
- 09:28 - 09:32
This is the most different program that a lot of families see
- 09:33 - 09:36
because it is unique to Arizona.
- 09:37 - 09:41
So how the Arizona State Tax credit program works
- 09:41 - 09:46
is families can get referral or recommended tax credits from
- 09:46 - 09:49
friends and family members in the state of Arizona,
- 09:50 - 09:52
there are no income restrictions
- 09:52 - 09:56
for the people donating their tax credits, they get a dollar for dollar match
- 09:56 - 09:58
and you can do this starting today
- 09:58 - 10:00
for the next school year.
- 10:01 - 10:02
So how it works.
- 10:03 - 10:04
What you first have to do is you have
- 10:04 - 10:07
to sign up with a scholarship tuition organization,
- 10:07 - 10:08
an sto
- 10:08 - 10:10
that does the referral recommended program.
- 10:10 - 10:15
Ctsoibe Arizona tuition connection are some of these organizations.
- 10:16 - 10:18
Once you sign up with that sto
- 10:18 - 10:21
they will give you directions on how to
- 10:21 - 10:24
refer friends and family members to their websites
- 10:24 - 10:26
to make a tax credit donation.
- 10:26 - 10:29
Once that friend or family member gets that information,
- 10:29 - 10:30
they simply go to the website,
- 10:31 - 10:34
they follow the instructions and they can make a donation to your student
- 10:35 - 10:37
for their private high school tuition.
- 10:38 - 10:38
And again,
- 10:38 - 10:41
that person making the donation gets a dollar for
- 10:41 - 10:43
dollar tax credit from the state of Arizona.
- 10:44 - 10:47
It's also important to note that only people who owe Arizona
- 10:47 - 10:50
state taxes can claim the dollar for dollar tax credit.
- 10:51 - 10:53
So if it's a relative living in California,
- 10:53 - 10:54
this wouldn't work for them
- 10:55 - 10:56
if it's a grandparent living in the state
- 10:56 - 11:00
of Arizona who don't pay any Arizona state taxes
- 11:00 - 11:02
because they're retired, this wouldn't work for them.
- 11:03 - 11:06
However, if a person is living in the state of Arizona
- 11:06 - 11:10
and they pay Arizona state taxes, whether they owe at the end of the year or not,
- 11:10 - 11:13
they're still paying into the tax program
- 11:13 - 11:16
every single year they can do this and get a dollar for dollar tax credit.
- 11:17 - 11:21
This can be done every single year by the same people.
- 11:21 - 11:25
Thus, from a family member, you could get tax credits from them
- 11:25 - 11:28
every single year and you can stack that money
- 11:28 - 11:33
every year to provide for yourself. Your student South Point Catholic tuition.
- 11:34 - 11:35
Now
- 11:35 - 11:37
you cannot contribute to your own student.
- 11:37 - 11:40
These are state laws so you can't contribute to your own kid.
- 11:40 - 11:41
And also
- 11:41 - 11:44
you cannot make a deal with other parents
- 11:44 - 11:48
where parent A says I will contribute to, to parent B
- 11:48 - 11:51
and parent B says I will contribute to parent C
- 11:51 - 11:53
as long as parent C contributes back to parent A.
- 11:54 - 11:55
So you can't do that.
- 11:56 - 12:00
And also these funds cannot be combined with option one, the, the ES A program.
- 12:01 - 12:03
So again, you can do this starting today,
- 12:03 - 12:06
you can do this for the 2024 tax year.
- 12:06 - 12:10
And for those people who are already doing tax credits to public schools,
- 12:10 - 12:13
you can do this right alongside the public school tax credit.
- 12:14 - 12:17
They are individual tax credits in the state of Arizona.
- 12:18 - 12:18
So
- 12:18 - 12:21
enough with the theory, let's go to actual numbers.
- 12:22 - 12:25
You need to decide what is best for your family
- 12:26 - 12:26
overall.
- 12:26 - 12:31
We recommend that you apply to everything, apply to the ES A, apply to financial aid,
- 12:31 - 12:33
apply to the ST Os.
- 12:33 - 12:36
See about the tax credit recommended referral system.
- 12:37 - 12:39
But you could at the end of the day, you can only choose one.
- 12:40 - 12:42
So let's look at hard numbers.
- 12:42 - 12:47
The ES A program, our tuition this year for new students is $12,660.
- 12:47 - 12:50
If you get a $7800 ES A award,
- 12:51 - 12:55
you owe $4860 or $486 per month
- 12:55 - 12:59
that you have to pay again. There's no other financial aid
- 12:59 - 13:00
that's available with this.
- 13:00 - 13:04
So if you're good, paying less than $500 a month for a South Point education,
- 13:04 - 13:06
this is the program for you
- 13:07 - 13:11
financial aid and sto so again, these are need based. So if you're a family
- 13:11 - 13:14
that qualifies for financial aid and ST Os,
- 13:14 - 13:17
you could get a $7000 reward from South Point Catholic,
- 13:17 - 13:20
another 4500 from other other ST Os
- 13:20 - 13:23
that leaves you with an $1160
- 13:23 - 13:27
balance or uh uh $116 per month.
- 13:27 - 13:29
And again, these are just simply examples,
- 13:29 - 13:33
you can apply to other ST Os and do the tax credit program as well.
- 13:34 - 13:36
And finally, the tax credit program,
- 13:36 - 13:37
if you,
- 13:38 - 13:40
if you get four referrals from married couples,
- 13:40 - 13:44
married couples can give right around $2800 each.
- 13:44 - 13:45
I believe
- 13:45 - 13:49
those four referrals for married couples equals $10,400.
- 13:49 - 13:57
Thus, you are left with the remaining balance of $2260 or $226 per month.
- 13:57 - 14:01
You can always get other tax credits. You can always get other ST Os
- 14:01 - 14:05
and then any unused tax credits can roll over for the next two years.
- 14:07 - 14:08
So
- 14:08 - 14:11
overall you can get started on these things today.
- 14:11 - 14:16
You can get going on tax credits starting on November 1st, which has already passed.
- 14:16 - 14:19
You can fill out the financial aid applications and es a
- 14:19 - 14:23
applications for the 2526 school year open in the spring.
- 14:25 - 14:29
I hope you enjoyed today's presentation again. For any questions
- 14:29 - 14:31
or extra information. Please contact the
- 14:32 - 14:38
