What's up, everybody?
- 00:02 - 00:05
I am here to talk about the final assignment of
- 00:05 - 00:05
the semester.
- 00:06 - 00:08
That is the final group project.
- 00:08 - 00:10
Okay, so in this video, we'll be going over just
- 00:11 - 00:14
what to expect in terms of the expectations for each
- 00:14 - 00:17
section. How long each speaker should go for the length
- 00:18 - 00:18
of the power point.
- 00:18 - 00:21
And overall, just generally would have looking for Okay, so
- 00:22 - 00:24
let's jump right in and discuss just what this final
- 00:25 - 00:25
projects all about.
- 00:26 - 00:28
So I'm very excited for this one because I got
- 00:28 - 00:31
advice from other faculty here I've taken from my own
- 00:31 - 00:32
experience is working for nonprofits.
- 00:33 - 00:36
And the goal is to in your group of, ideally,
- 00:37 - 00:39
four people create your own nonprofit organization.
- 00:40 - 00:42
Okay, Now, this does not mean you have to go
- 00:42 - 00:44
file. If I only 501 c three, you don't start
- 00:45 - 00:47
the paperwork to get it approved within the city.
- 00:48 - 00:50
But what I do want you to dio is to
- 00:51 - 00:56
assume that I am, say, a investor looking to invest
- 00:56 - 00:58
in a non profit organization to see it run.
- 00:58 - 01:00
And I want you to create a power point presentation
- 01:02 - 01:05
with your group that lays out the vision for your
- 01:05 - 01:06
nonprofit organization.
- 01:07 - 01:09
Okay, now there's a lot of examples that you can
- 01:09 - 01:12
use for this you could use, say, any of the
- 01:12 - 01:14
ones I have listed under A, which is to help
- 01:14 - 01:17
out a vulnerable, group, vulnerable group of people.
- 01:17 - 01:18
So this could be specific.
- 01:18 - 01:23
Homeless populations, childhood poverty, job skills, training for any kind
- 01:23 - 01:26
of demographic that you want that is the recently incarcerated
- 01:27 - 01:28
were released from jail veterans.
- 01:29 - 01:29
Anything like that.
- 01:30 - 01:33
Elderly home care abuse survivors meant of this ability.
- 01:34 - 01:35
Mental health, animal abuse.
- 01:36 - 01:36
So any vulnerable population.
- 01:37 - 01:40
Or it could be social advocacy on behalf of a
- 01:40 - 01:41
specific issue.
- 01:41 - 01:43
So this could be a simple rights for a demographic.
- 01:45 - 01:48
Guns, rights, animal rights, veterans riots, legal rights for prisoners,
- 01:49 - 01:52
legal rights for the user's users, women's rights and bio
- 01:52 - 01:55
more protection, welfare reform, whatever it is that you believe
- 01:57 - 02:00
this community in Pennell County needs okay, And that's the
- 02:00 - 02:00
key part.
- 02:01 - 02:03
What does this community in Pinellas County need?
- 02:04 - 02:05
That it doesn't already have?
- 02:06 - 02:09
Right. If they're already wasn't Canal County say, a equine
- 02:09 - 02:12
therapy program for vets, then you'll probably have to think
- 02:12 - 02:13
of a different focus.
- 02:13 - 02:16
Okay, so what you're gonna do is in your Group
- 02:16 - 02:16
of four.
- 02:17 - 02:19
You're going to ideally have one person.
- 02:20 - 02:23
Choose number one second person shoes to third person.
- 02:23 - 02:26
Choose 34 person shoes for the key.
- 02:26 - 02:29
Thing is, everyone should present at roughly the same length
- 02:29 - 02:29
of time.
- 02:30 - 02:34
So you're looking at about 55 minutes per group member.
- 02:34 - 02:37
Okay, so five minutes for each person gets you about
- 02:37 - 02:38
20 minutes total.
- 02:39 - 02:40
I'd like to see about maybe five.
- 02:41 - 02:43
I'd say about 7 to 10 slides per person.
- 02:44 - 02:47
So that gives you then about 25 to 30 slides.
- 02:47 - 02:49
Okay, that is the key thing.
- 02:49 - 02:52
They're now in terms of the presentation itself.
- 02:53 - 02:56
I want to see you focus on specific examples and
- 02:56 - 02:57
outside sources.
- 02:57 - 02:58
That's really key.
- 02:59 - 02:59
Number one.
- 03:00 - 03:02
This is the key and core details of the nonprofit.
- 03:03 - 03:04
What's the name of it?
- 03:04 - 03:05
Create a logo.
- 03:05 - 03:08
What's the topic or area focus that it has.
- 03:08 - 03:09
How did you come up with this?
- 03:10 - 03:13
You know what gap exists in this Canal County region
- 03:13 - 03:17
that necessitates your nonprofit exist?
- 03:17 - 03:21
Okay. Each of those questions need to be answered with
- 03:21 - 03:24
at least two sources, not including the textbook that are
- 03:24 - 03:25
cited in the A.
- 03:26 - 03:27
P. 1/6 edition format.
- 03:27 - 03:30
So The whole goal is to take outside sources saying
- 03:30 - 03:32
here in Canal County, what's missing?
- 03:32 - 03:35
Or it could be something that maybe there's one organization
- 03:35 - 03:36
that does it.
- 03:36 - 03:39
But outside research says there should be several, especially in
- 03:39 - 03:42
a region like Chanel County, which is rural, very spread
- 03:42 - 03:45
out and also, you know, big chunks of inner girl.
- 03:45 - 03:47
Right Santan value over 90,000 people.
- 03:48 - 03:52
Apache Junction approaching 50,000 Kasa Grande of I think just
- 03:52 - 03:56
over 50,000 Right about there, Maricopa down 60,000.
- 03:57 - 04:00
So you have what's not traditionally very small areas now
- 04:00 - 04:01
with a lot of people.
- 04:02 - 04:05
So the goal is to be able to explained through
- 04:05 - 04:08
sources, either local sources or national sources that say, Hey,
- 04:09 - 04:10
this region would need this.
- 04:11 - 04:14
The second element of this presentation is all about what's
- 04:15 - 04:19
considered your primary initiatives or projects, as well as the
- 04:19 - 04:20
vision for day to day activities.
- 04:21 - 04:24
So I talked about in class and I have a
- 04:24 - 04:27
power point available, which gives you an example of a
- 04:27 - 04:30
nonprofit organization that I created and what it looks like
- 04:31 - 04:33
for the vision of it, the projects and the day
- 04:33 - 04:33
to day activities.
- 04:34 - 04:36
Number two is gonna be all about that.
- 04:36 - 04:39
Okay? You're also in number two going to be signing
- 04:40 - 04:44
two sources, not including the textbook that talk about what
- 04:44 - 04:45
projects would say.
- 04:46 - 04:47
A nonprofit of your focus.
- 04:48 - 04:50
Do what would some of the you know, I would
- 04:50 - 04:54
also say vision initiatives, initiatives for these projects?
- 04:55 - 04:56
How long are they going to last?
- 04:56 - 04:57
What's the impact that they will have?
- 04:58 - 05:00
That's what I really want to see you do for
- 05:00 - 05:00
number two.
- 05:00 - 05:01
What's that five year vision?
- 05:02 - 05:06
Okay, so three and four are going to be focused
- 05:07 - 05:11
on taking textbook concepts and applying them to David running
- 05:12 - 05:15
of the nonprofit in implementing suggestions and feedback from the
- 05:15 - 05:16
local community.
- 05:16 - 05:19
Okay. And then finally, it's How do you plan based
- 05:19 - 05:21
off of that feedback you get in?
- 05:21 - 05:22
How you run a day today?
- 05:23 - 05:24
How do you plan to make an impact in that
- 05:24 - 05:27
community overall for Number three, the whole goals to take
- 05:28 - 05:32
at least attn least two theories from Chapter eight number
- 05:32 - 05:35
four, the goals to take 22 theories from Chapter nine,
- 05:35 - 05:37
and these don't have to end with the word theory.
- 05:38 - 05:39
They could be any of the concepts that we discussed
- 05:40 - 05:40
in those chapters.
- 05:41 - 05:44
The whole goal is is to follow the example that
- 05:44 - 05:47
I posted it on on blackboard for this assignment.
- 05:48 - 05:49
Second toe.
- 05:49 - 05:53
Also, look at the the impressive lecture that I talked
- 05:53 - 05:55
about just before, where I lay out the five year
- 05:56 - 05:57
vision, day to day logistics, things like that.
- 05:58 - 06:01
After consulting those sources, I want you to really be
- 06:01 - 06:06
clear and say, How does this theory or concept impact
- 06:07 - 06:07
a fact?
- 06:08 - 06:11
Maybe a mold, the way in which this nonprofit runs
- 06:12 - 06:16
day to day, implement suggestions and creates a a positive
- 06:16 - 06:17
impact on the community?
- 06:18 - 06:20
Okay, so that's the project as a whole.
- 06:21 - 06:23
Make sure that each group members speaks for roughly five
- 06:23 - 06:26
minutes. Make sure they have somewhere the ballpark of I'd
- 06:27 - 06:29
say 6 to 10 slides right around there.
- 06:29 - 06:33
Also, make sure if you can every person should have
- 06:34 - 06:37
their name on the first live with the title of
- 06:37 - 06:37
the nonprofit.
- 06:38 - 06:40
And then, of course, a slide at the end, which
- 06:41 - 06:43
has the four outside sources combined with the textbook.
- 06:44 - 06:46
Okay, that we're excited Slide as well as in text
- 06:47 - 06:49
as always gonna be in a p 1/6 edition.
- 06:49 - 06:51
Okay, let me know in class, if you have any
- 06:51 - 06:55
questions otherwise are very excited for these presentations to see
- 06:56 - 06:57
what nonprofits you'll create
