Hi, I'm randi Shriner and I'm so excited to be
- 00:06 - 00:09
applying for the media specialist position at your school.
- 00:09 - 00:12
I currently work at Zionsville Middle School where I love
- 00:13 - 00:17
my district, the staff and the students I do, however,
- 00:17 - 00:20
desire a change in position to a job that I
- 00:20 - 00:22
feel will use all of my gifts and my experience
- 00:23 - 00:25
um as an educator and so I just want to
- 00:26 - 00:28
tell you some of the skills and that I can
- 00:28 - 00:30
bring to this position, some of the reasons why I
- 00:30 - 00:31
think it would be a really good fit.
- 00:32 - 00:35
First of all, my love for curriculum planning and collaboration,
- 00:36 - 00:39
um one of the favorite pieces of my job right
- 00:39 - 00:40
now is my curriculum planning.
- 00:41 - 00:43
I'm always looking to create a project based units, inquiry
- 00:44 - 00:47
based instruction and anybody who knows me and knows my
- 00:47 - 00:50
classroom um knows that I do a lot of real
- 00:50 - 00:53
life application when they come in um and a lot
- 00:53 - 00:54
of interdisciplinary units.
- 00:55 - 00:58
So I would love to continue this curriculum planning piece
- 00:58 - 01:01
that I love putting time into, because I think that's
- 01:01 - 01:02
a lot of fun and I think that would be
- 01:02 - 01:05
very beneficial as a media specialist, working and collaborating with
- 01:05 - 01:05
other teachers.
- 01:07 - 01:10
Um I have a passion for literacy, I love books
- 01:10 - 01:13
and I have an excitement for helping students select books
- 01:14 - 01:16
that pertain to their interest to help them um develop
- 01:17 - 01:18
a love for reading as well.
- 01:20 - 01:22
And then I have very strong administrative skills, I'm very
- 01:22 - 01:23
organized and efficient.
- 01:24 - 01:26
Um I have really good time management skills, which I
- 01:26 - 01:29
think is really important for this job with all the
- 01:29 - 01:32
different things that are on the media specialist plate um
- 01:32 - 01:34
and all the different administrative tasks that need to be
- 01:34 - 01:36
accomplished. I think that would be a really good fit
- 01:36 - 01:36
for me.
- 01:37 - 01:40
Yeah. And then finally, I view myself as kind of
- 01:41 - 01:41
a utility player.
- 01:42 - 01:43
I've been told that I have a Swiss army knife
- 01:44 - 01:46
teaching license because I'm qualified to teach so many things
- 01:47 - 01:48
and I've been asked to do that over the years.
- 01:49 - 01:51
And every single time I've been able to walk into
- 01:51 - 01:54
a new classroom with a new grade level, new set
- 01:54 - 01:55
of criteria.
- 01:55 - 01:58
And I've been able to reach those goals as successfully
- 01:59 - 02:00
as if I would have stayed in the same place
- 02:00 - 02:02
and I've enjoyed that and loved the variety.
- 02:03 - 02:05
And so I know that as a media specialist, I
- 02:05 - 02:09
can go into any classroom with any teacher who's teaching,
- 02:10 - 02:12
um, you know, a new learning environment and I can
- 02:12 - 02:14
adapt to that and I can help those students in
- 02:14 - 02:15
that room reach those goals.
- 02:16 - 02:22
Um, because I love having that variety and I have
- 02:22 - 02:24
a track record of being able to do that.
- 02:24 - 02:26
And I think that would be so much fun to
- 02:26 - 02:28
be able to support those students in that teacher.
- 02:28 - 02:31
And having the math and language arts piece, I think
- 02:31 - 02:33
is really helpful because I want the media center to
- 02:33 - 02:36
be a place, um, that reaches teachers of all grade
- 02:36 - 02:39
levels and all content areas and as a resource for
- 02:39 - 02:40
them, teachers and students.
- 02:41 - 02:42
So I would love the chance to have an interview.
- 02:43 - 02:45
Thank you so much for watching this video, and I
- 02:45 - 02:46
hope to hear from you soon.
