I'll talk about the other and a little bit about

the first one I chose was beyond Silence.

This movie is about a young Laura as she grows

up in a hard of hearing household.

She is heavily relied on as her parents do daily

tasks and just things around the house or things with

other people who don't understand sign language.

So during this time, Laura kind let discovers that this

isn't the life she wants to live and she starts

to tear away from her family.

She had to experience life for herself and be somebody

who her parents want her, don't want her to be

a tragic accident happens within their family and Laura is

left to discover her true self.

After this, the second movie I chose is rabbit proof

France. This is about two girls who were taken from

their aboriginal families.

Um They were forced to integrate with white persons with

the white person society as they were sent to a
- 01:35 - 01:35
training camp.

That domestic eights them into workers and to be protective

people of a normal society.

They realize that this isn't the life that's true to

them. They make a great escape by following the one

last thing that's connecting them to their lives as once

they were taken away from as they embark on this
- 01:55 - 01:57
journey and throughout the movie a little bit that kind

of show the people who are suppressing them, try and

get them back to the camp as they really wanted

them to become productive people of society.

My thesis is diversities, understanding of everyone's uniqueness and differences

oftentimes the word diversity can be misunderstood or misinterpreted in

ways that Do not allow for one or a group

of people to gain knowledge or experiences.

The movie rabbit proof fence and beyond silence show diversity

and I only break social norms but expand people's knowledge

on different perspectives, pushing the boundaries of diversity to create

an open environment that fosters second thoughts and questioning beliefs.

So the evidence I pulled from beyond silent that I

feel supports my team diversity is when the kids in

her class, call her out in front of her teacher

as her mom was signing to her outside of the

classroom, she needed Laura so that she could go to

the bank and translate for her and her father.

The kids laugh at her and make one of her

for this and they tell the teacher, Laura eventually actually

leaves class and goes with them.

Um, I argue that this is a strong presence of

diversity because Laura's family is what we would consider different

from the rest of like normal families, quotation points around

normal families, um, let alone in school in life.

So I think that this shows diversity because if compared

from like one family to the next, it sometimes different

to see hard of hearing families and how they communicate.

But I feel like this really supports my team diversity.

Um, another evidence I had pulled from beyond silence.

Um, was some motifs um, that are very important in

the movie I think, and I think it is the

clarinet and the bike when Gloria receives the clarinet as

a present martin.

Her father is very upset with her because he can't

necessarily hear the sound as a kid.

He grew up and was punished for not understanding the

sound of Claremont made or let alone a musical instrument.

So the idea of laura and playing this instrument, he

is completely against it.

I think this has a lot to do with diversity

in the matter, that the word diversity is more than

just a race.

Um, and I think martin refuses to emerge himself in

a family of music and I think it makes him

a little bit angry was the fact that he was

just a little bit traumatized from his father not being

really accepting of him signing.

I think that and when you think of a family

that's hard of hearing, you don't really accept them or
- 04:47 - 04:49
expect them to be into music.

But I think that the way martin thinks of this

is that he is already of a already has a
- 04:57 - 05:00
different family, so he's kind of already sticking out his
- 05:00 - 05:04
neck and I think that when Laura really wants to

play the clarinet, it's kind of sticking out their families

neck like a little bit further and could follow for
- 05:10 - 05:16
judgment and more traumatizing things that have happened or that

can happen that had happened to Martin while he was

growing up.

Um the bike in this movie also acts as a

motif. I feel like it is something that is a

mold necessarily or stigma around hard of hearing people, most

people don't understand or know that deaf people or hard

of hearing people, it's hard for them to ride a

bike because they don't have a sense of balance, which

makes it really hard for them to combat that.

As Laura gets older, she does not enforce, but encourages

her mother to ride a bike.

And I think that this is um, a stereotype that

lawyer really wanted to break.

And I think that's the whole point of this movie

in a census, that Laura is fully prepared to immerse

herself in diversity and breaking molds and breaking stereotypes and

stigmas of her hard of hearing parents and little in

herself. And I think that there's just is a great

example of how martin growing up, so not necessarily capable

or ready to immerse himself, but I think that he

was kind of suppressed in a sense to that he

couldn't stick his neck out or couldn't want or couldn't

do the things he wanted to do because of his

one little setback of being hard of hearing some evidence

that I pulled from rabbit proof sense was at the

beginning of the film.

I think it is a significant importance by creating an

interpreting an environment or aboriginal and indigenous people are forced

to suppress their culture.

point that diversity is so many other things.

stance on displaying diversity and all sorts of mediums and

platforms by achieving the goal of achieving I, diversity is

often sought out difficult, and often times results in conflicts

and debates by Supreme justices, big corporate businesses and citizens

all around.

Yet the stats are outnumbered and and outperformed when diverse

groups work together.

A study in 2014, actually conducted by Stanford University, brought

pre occupying a space that looks good on paper or

in the eyes of others or in the eyes of

people looking up to companies or big people or big

businesses. Um, I think this is where no one's really

makes this case about diversity interpretation and how it also

supports my thesis.

Uh, diversity is a system that is currently proportionally in

favor of the white people in power until colored people

the word diversity and be like, oh, if we just

had mixed race people or colored people to the picture

Um we all know that time's Mark magazine is a

huge focal part of many of our lives discussing such

a subjective topic, social matters, both political and personal.

But when Gregory Rodriguez wrote how diversity makes it makes

us smarter, he definitely, I knew he was getting into

a complicated pit full of american lifestyles.

One of the quotes I pulled from this article was

diversity however, requires second thoughts and I think that this

was a really good quote because we mostly look at

diversity as just a covering surface as you know, like

oh we have to do this because we have to

really include all people or we have to include multiple

people or all different kinds of people in all our

lives, people.

But I think that diversity crisis have second thoughts at

all times, but it should be more second thoughts and

more complex second thoughts.

social trust a collective of life and losing faith in

community that surrounds them has completely disappeared.

kind of explaining how very how a lot of people

people, they often don't trust them, are often looking out

for themselves and always hoping or expecting the works to

this all up, I think that one of the quotes

that I found within the Times article was that so

that so it should follow that operating in a diverse

environment makes you smarter.

Diversity is not require us to simply learn how to

celebrate our differences.

It requires us to tax our brains by questioning our

worldviews, our beliefs and our institutions.
