Hello. My name is Savannah Link.
- 00:05 - 00:07
So introduction for myself.
- 00:07 - 00:11
I am from Clinton indiana which is about 10, 15 minutes north of terra.
- 00:11 - 00:16
Ho I went to high school in clinton indiana. Um at south vermillion.
- 00:16 - 00:21
I am currently a junior at indiana State University.
- 00:21 - 00:27
Um I'm anticipated to graduate next year 2023. Around this time
- 00:28 - 00:33
my major is psychology and I am mina ring behavioral sciences.
- 00:34 - 00:35
Mm hmm.
- 00:36 - 00:40
Um currently I am working a full time
- 00:40 - 00:45
position Ashley furniture as a store operations specialist.
- 00:45 - 00:52
So I keep track of guests orders any of their concerns and
- 00:53 - 00:54
four questions that they have.
- 00:55 - 00:58
I'm kind of the first one that they contact in that
- 00:59 - 01:02
whole process and from there if I can solve their
- 01:02 - 01:06
issue or answer their question I can or I can also
- 01:06 - 01:11
message um different DCs that we pull out of or corporate
- 01:11 - 01:13
office to see if they can help them as well.
- 01:15 - 01:20
Um I also have some experience in the medical background field.
- 01:20 - 01:23
Um I did work at
- 01:23 - 01:26
Union Hospital for about two years
- 01:27 - 01:29
before coming here.
- 01:29 - 01:34
I worked as a patient care assistant. So in that job I went
- 01:34 - 01:39
from door to door in the emergency room and kind of checked on patients.
- 01:39 - 01:41
I also registered them
- 01:44 - 01:48
and then if they had any concerns themselves I would when
- 01:48 - 01:50
I went to go check on them I would help them
- 01:50 - 01:53
out if I could or I would find someone who could
- 01:53 - 01:57
help them um whether that be a doctor or nurse anything
- 01:58 - 02:01
and then often I was in the room
- 02:02 - 02:04
whenever they first came in so I was able
- 02:04 - 02:06
to hear their concerns and where they were there.
- 02:06 - 02:12
So I have a little bit of the medical terminology background as well,
- 02:12 - 02:13
the
- 02:13 - 02:17
um familiar with that field in the environment of the hospital,
- 02:20 - 02:27
The post graduation. So in 2023 like I said I will be graduating.
- 02:27 - 02:33
Um my first thing I would like to do is get a job as a mental health technician.
- 02:34 - 02:40
These technicians provide direct direct patient care to everybody. Um
- 02:40 - 02:43
They tend to work in hospital settings but
- 02:43 - 02:46
they can also work in private practices as well
- 02:46 - 02:49
For myself. I would want to work at a hospital.
- 02:50 - 02:54
Um I am familiar with the environment itself so
- 02:54 - 02:57
and I just really like that fast paced working.
- 02:57 - 02:57
Um
- 02:58 - 03:01
There's a lot of individuals around you that can also help you,
- 03:01 - 03:02
I like that environment.
- 03:02 - 03:07
Um They also educate the patients and their parents on what's going on.
- 03:08 - 03:10
So I find that really hopeful I
- 03:11 - 03:14
generally enjoy communicating with others. So
- 03:15 - 03:18
speaking to their family, speaking to them about what's going on,
- 03:18 - 03:20
keeping them informed.
- 03:20 - 03:22
I really enjoyed that.
- 03:22 - 03:28
Um the median salary for this position would be 26-41K. A year.
- 03:28 - 03:33
I believe that kind of differs on different licenses that you have. Um
- 03:34 - 03:35
your
- 03:36 - 03:40
longevity of being in that job position and with that organization that
- 03:40 - 03:41
depends as well.
- 03:42 - 03:43
Um
- 03:43 - 03:49
First stop to how I find this job is I would like to get a job at Union Hospital.
- 03:49 - 03:53
Again I really enjoyed that environment and the people
- 03:53 - 03:57
I worked with and just the facility in general.
- 03:57 - 04:00
So I would definitely work there.
- 04:00 - 04:04
I have some different contacts still from when I did work there.
- 04:04 - 04:11
Um I'll also continue networking throughout my time I. S. U. And then until I get
- 04:12 - 04:15
a good background of people to know.
- 04:15 - 04:20
Um Also a great way to find jobs is internet job search,
- 04:20 - 04:22
is there always posted on there.
- 04:22 - 04:25
So, I believe that's a good way to kind of stay updated with
- 04:26 - 04:28
what, where has what jobs. So
- 04:30 - 04:36
in addition to um finding this job, I will also be searching for a grad school to go to.
- 04:36 - 04:41
I plan to take about a year or maybe two office school until I
- 04:41 - 04:43
Um get accepted into one and
- 04:45 - 04:48
I want to go back to school at least. Um
- 04:50 - 04:51
I believe
- 04:53 - 05:01
it will take some time to find a good grad school to go to, but I am excited for that
- 05:02 - 05:03
um experience. So,
- 05:04 - 05:04
okay,
- 05:05 - 05:09
so long term career goals, of course,
- 05:09 - 05:15
I want to graduate grad school um gain more licensing in that field as well.
- 05:15 - 05:19
Um I will probably continue working as a
- 05:19 - 05:22
mental health technician for a while After that
- 05:22 - 05:26
I just really liked that rule um in the medical field and
- 05:26 - 05:29
I believe it just will help me gain a lot of experience.
- 05:30 - 05:38
Um I know during the 16 personality tests I tested as a turbulent protagonist.
- 05:38 - 05:42
So that just means I typically do like helping others
- 05:42 - 05:43
um
- 05:43 - 05:48
out more than the typical assertive protagonists.
- 05:48 - 05:50
So I believe that job fits me well.
- 05:51 - 05:57
Um but afterwards I would like to start my own practice of private practice.
- 05:57 - 06:01
So I know that will take a lot of experience and knowledge and
- 06:02 - 06:05
this time, so that will be further on down the road,
- 06:06 - 06:08
but that's kind of my dream job.
- 06:08 - 06:10
Um eventually I do want to move out of the
- 06:10 - 06:15
state of indiana to what state I'm not sure yet.
- 06:15 - 06:18
So I'm open to different opportunities and
- 06:19 - 06:21
different scenarios that may happen.
- 06:21 - 06:25
Um and then like I said to do in my own private practice,
- 06:25 - 06:27
I would also need additional licensing.
- 06:27 - 06:33
So I'll be working to get that and having these additional licensing can never
- 06:33 - 06:37
be harmful to you. So believe that's just more knowledge that you can gain
- 06:39 - 06:43
and then um any missing skills that I have, like I said,
- 06:43 - 06:46
I will do additional schooling,
- 06:46 - 06:52
um finish up my grad degree and then I will also do the additional licensing,
- 06:52 - 06:55
so that'll help with different skills that I am missing.
- 06:55 - 07:00
Um And I believe just experience overall being
- 07:01 - 07:04
close by and working nearby with someone who does have these skills
- 07:04 - 07:08
is always helpful because you will slowly learn to adapt those skills
- 07:10 - 07:12
and then moving on
- 07:12 - 07:15
to skills and personal branding.
- 07:15 - 07:20
So one major skill that I already have is communication which I
- 07:20 - 07:23
believe that's a huge skill to have in the psychology field,
- 07:23 - 07:25
especially for what I want to go for.
- 07:25 - 07:31
Um there's a lot of patient um practitioner
- 07:32 - 07:35
communication going on and you really need to be able to
- 07:35 - 07:39
understand your patient and what your patients feeling at the time.
- 07:39 - 07:44
So that I definitely have that going for me um in the job I have right now,
- 07:44 - 07:46
I also communication based.
- 07:46 - 07:47
So
- 07:47 - 07:51
that would help a lot. I'm also goal driven.
- 07:51 - 07:55
So I worked really hard at what I do and when I love what I do,
- 07:55 - 07:57
then work even harder as well.
- 07:58 - 08:00
Um in this position here
- 08:00 - 08:03
I am in 18 lead.
- 08:03 - 08:09
So I take initiative on a lot of the issues and responsibilities that are given to me.
- 08:09 - 08:12
And then in a job I want to be knowledgeable about
- 08:13 - 08:15
what I am doing.
- 08:15 - 08:18
So, if a different employee has a question to me,
- 08:18 - 08:24
I want them to come to me and ask me for advice or the knowledge on it.
- 08:24 - 08:27
And hopefully I do have a and if I don't then I would
- 08:27 - 08:31
just refer them to someone who does or find out for myself.
- 08:32 - 08:35
Um Personal branding. So
- 08:36 - 08:37
mm hmm.
- 08:38 - 08:42
Personally, I want my employees,
- 08:42 - 08:45
future employees or my coworkers to know that they
- 08:45 - 08:49
can come to me with any questions or any issues
- 08:49 - 08:51
that they're having and I will be helpful to
- 08:51 - 08:54
them if they don't know how to do something,
- 08:55 - 08:58
they should always know that I'm here to help them and not judge them.
- 08:58 - 09:00
I'm not knowing how to do something
- 09:00 - 09:03
um Professional, I want
- 09:03 - 09:08
not only my patients but the different practitioners that I may
- 09:08 - 09:12
meet with, associate with or even work with,
- 09:12 - 09:15
I want them to know that I am knowledgeable about the field
- 09:16 - 09:18
and what I can do. Um
- 09:18 - 09:22
Something that does set me off from the different students that might
- 09:22 - 09:27
be wanting a career in this um field as well is experience.
- 09:27 - 09:33
So I know I have a bit of experience now, but after I graduate, like I said,
- 09:33 - 09:37
I want to do the mental health technician which will give me more experience.
- 09:37 - 09:41
Um I plan on continuing to network with people,
- 09:41 - 09:44
so maybe I can gain more experiences through them
- 09:45 - 09:47
and then um
- 09:47 - 09:52
going back to grad school, I mean that will bring me more knowledge as well,
- 09:52 - 09:52
so.
- 09:54 - 09:56
Alrighty, well, thank you for listening.
