friends. Brian fans are here.
- 00:01 - 00:01
I social fans.
- 00:02 - 00:04
We're going to talk a little bit about well, selling
- 00:05 - 00:10
in this digital world and, well, reinventing online sales.
- 00:10 - 00:13
And when we think about reinventing online sales presentations, we
- 00:13 - 00:17
really have to take account this virtual space, what we're
- 00:17 - 00:19
doing from offline to online.
- 00:19 - 00:21
And really, what does all this type of selling mean
- 00:22 - 00:25
and probably most importantly, addressing a lot of the concerns?
- 00:26 - 00:27
I know a lot of people are out there are
- 00:27 - 00:29
waiting till we go back to normal all these different
- 00:29 - 00:31
things. So I'm gonna tackle each one of them, including
- 00:32 - 00:34
those that are a little bit, you know, let's just
- 00:34 - 00:38
say pessimistic about this idea of, well selling online.
- 00:38 - 00:40
And when we think about it, what virtual video and
- 00:41 - 00:43
all the things we have so many things that exist
- 00:43 - 00:45
in this digital virtual world.
- 00:45 - 00:47
I don't blame you for being overwhelmed, but I think
- 00:47 - 00:49
we kind of break this down.
- 00:49 - 00:50
We kind of look at this.
- 00:51 - 00:54
It really comes down to just video video as a
- 00:54 - 00:55
whole, and there's a couple different types of video.
- 00:55 - 00:58
We have live video, we have prerecorded video, and then
- 00:58 - 01:00
we have produced video, but I believe that we're looking
- 01:00 - 01:04
at sales and selling, especially in this current digital virtual
- 01:04 - 01:07
world. And as we move into a hybrid future, we
- 01:07 - 01:10
really have to focus in on live and pre recorded
- 01:10 - 01:13
video, which is pretty cool enough is what we're using
- 01:14 - 01:15
here using Prezi video.
- 01:15 - 01:18
So I'm recording this prerecorded, but I can actually do
- 01:18 - 01:20
this live in zoom or any of the presentation software
- 01:21 - 01:22
webinar software that exists.
- 01:23 - 01:24
So if we think about it and we realize video
- 01:25 - 01:28
virtual, it all comes down to live video and pre
- 01:28 - 01:29
recorded video.
- 01:29 - 01:31
Now we have to think about how do we take
- 01:31 - 01:33
what we do offline online?
- 01:34 - 01:36
And how do we embrace online so that it matches
- 01:36 - 01:37
what we do offline?
- 01:37 - 01:39
Because one of the things that growing up and even,
- 01:40 - 01:42
uh, 10 years ago, my dad, I remember being candy
- 01:43 - 01:44
salesman was always like son.
- 01:45 - 01:47
I love what you're doing on social media and digital,
- 01:48 - 01:51
but nothing you do online will replace what you do
- 01:51 - 01:54
offline, and my dad probably has a point there.
- 01:54 - 01:57
But times have changed, and the days of letting your
- 01:57 - 02:00
work do the talking for you are over, and it's
- 02:00 - 02:04
important for us to not only embrace digital, virtual and
- 02:04 - 02:08
social, but to reinvent how we approach this entire arena.
- 02:08 - 02:10
And for a lot of people, this idea of reinventing
- 02:11 - 02:12
virtually can be intimidating.
- 02:13 - 02:14
I mean, let's face it.
- 02:14 - 02:15
I mean, some of the best YouTubers in the world
- 02:16 - 02:18
when they get on stage as a speaker, they're horrible.
- 02:18 - 02:20
Some of the best speakers we've ever seen.
- 02:21 - 02:23
When they get in front of video, they're they're not
- 02:23 - 02:25
great. And so when you think about this and we're
- 02:25 - 02:28
taking what we do offline and we're moving it to
- 02:28 - 02:30
online, there's something that I believe is what I call
- 02:30 - 02:34
the four ease to embrace this, well, virtual digital world
- 02:35 - 02:37
and kind of match what we do offline So that
- 02:37 - 02:42
first E is environment setting up the environment around you
- 02:42 - 02:45
so that you are set up to succeed the way
- 02:45 - 02:46
that you like to sell.
- 02:46 - 02:49
I think oftentimes we we were like, Hey, I'm great.
- 02:49 - 02:51
When someone I need someone at the bar networking event
- 02:52 - 02:53
or were on the golf course, I can sell anyone
- 02:54 - 02:57
anything, but when I'm at home on my laptop on
- 02:58 - 02:59
the couch, I can't do it, and I think it's
- 02:59 - 03:02
because we're not setting our energy and our environment enough
- 03:03 - 03:04
up enough to actually be successful.
- 03:05 - 03:07
The second one is emotion, and now this can be
- 03:07 - 03:10
difficult for some because we don't get to see the
- 03:10 - 03:12
reaction. Sometimes of our audience are those that we're talking
- 03:13 - 03:15
to. And so, especially in the selling perspective, we have
- 03:15 - 03:18
to really think about what is the emotion that I
- 03:18 - 03:20
am conveying by the way that I'm talking, the way
- 03:20 - 03:20
I'm presenting.
- 03:21 - 03:23
And then what is the emotion that I want the
- 03:23 - 03:23
audience to feel?
- 03:24 - 03:25
And I think one of the things you can do
- 03:25 - 03:27
with that is you can take into account things like
- 03:27 - 03:29
this. So, like, for me, I'll change to a stool
- 03:30 - 03:32
if I want to make it a little bit more
- 03:32 - 03:34
conversational like right, like, Hey, we can have this conversation
- 03:35 - 03:37
That's the two of us talk.
- 03:37 - 03:39
If I really want to change the dynamic and make
- 03:39 - 03:41
it more like, okay, we're just gonna sit back and
- 03:42 - 03:43
let's just have a casual conversation.
- 03:44 - 03:48
I might include a chair or if I'm delivering my
- 03:48 - 03:51
you know, the power and I'm really talking to them
- 03:51 - 03:52
and trying to inspire and motivate educate.
- 03:53 - 03:54
I'm gonna be on my feet like I am now,
- 03:54 - 03:56
and so I think it's important to have a little
- 03:57 - 03:59
bit of the right setup and then matching that emotion
- 04:00 - 04:00
with the setup that you have.
- 04:01 - 04:02
Number three is the execution.
- 04:03 - 04:06
Execution is the third e really comes down to press
- 04:06 - 04:06
the damn button, right?
- 04:07 - 04:08
Like, right there, press the damn button.
- 04:08 - 04:11
And it really takes a lot of practice and a
- 04:11 - 04:12
lot of repetition, right?
- 04:12 - 04:14
And for those that I coach, I always say that
- 04:14 - 04:15
we have to test.
- 04:16 - 04:17
We have to tweak, and we have to repeat right.
- 04:18 - 04:20
It's a cycle, and you won't get good at it
- 04:20 - 04:20
until you get started.
- 04:21 - 04:23
And the best time to get started on video or
- 04:23 - 04:25
virtual or selling online was probably 10 years ago.
- 04:25 - 04:28
The next best time is today, and then the last
- 04:28 - 04:30
e, which is empathy, right?
- 04:30 - 04:32
We have to be able be able to understand that
- 04:33 - 04:34
sometimes our audience might not be engaged.
- 04:35 - 04:37
Sometimes that people were talking to might be, uh, running
- 04:38 - 04:38
home school.
- 04:38 - 04:40
I know my daughters are right on the other side
- 04:40 - 04:43
of that of that curtain doing virtual school, and so
- 04:43 - 04:45
we have to be very empathetic and realize that the
- 04:45 - 04:47
environment and all the things that we're doing are going
- 04:48 - 04:49
to change and kind of drift as they go.
- 04:50 - 04:52
Now we talk a little bit of offline online.
- 04:52 - 04:54
Now we're gonna talk to well, the A b CS
- 04:54 - 04:55
of selling, right?
- 04:55 - 04:57
We know this ABC always be closing.
- 04:58 - 05:00
Well, I'm gonna add one of those.
- 05:01 - 05:01
There's me.
- 05:01 - 05:03
We're gonna add a y always be yourself.
- 05:04 - 05:06
And when I say always be yourself, especially in this
- 05:07 - 05:09
digital world, you might be asking What does that mean?
- 05:09 - 05:09
Like, how can I be myself?
- 05:10 - 05:11
I have to like I have to script everything I
- 05:11 - 05:13
have to worry about the cameras and the gear.
- 05:13 - 05:16
Well, here's the thing when we're thinking about always being
- 05:16 - 05:18
ourselves, we have to jump into this virtual world.
- 05:19 - 05:19
We have no choice.
- 05:20 - 05:22
But this is where I believe we can all embrace
- 05:22 - 05:24
limitations, inspire creativity.
- 05:25 - 05:27
And so we have to use the limitations around us
- 05:28 - 05:30
to really be creative with the way we deliver our
- 05:30 - 05:33
presentations and the way that I teach everyone, including live
- 05:33 - 05:35
video webinars sales teams.
- 05:36 - 05:37
No matter who are I?
- 05:37 - 05:37
I teach everybody.
- 05:38 - 05:40
It comes down to this what I call sticky or
- 05:41 - 05:41
stick to five.
- 05:42 - 05:44
Stick to five and that's it for me.
- 05:44 - 05:47
What that means is I put five things on a
- 05:47 - 05:49
sticky note, one of those five things for every presentation,
- 05:50 - 05:51
a matter for 60 minutes or six minutes.
- 05:52 - 05:54
The first three things that I put on that sticky
- 05:54 - 05:57
note are the three takeaways that I want to make
- 05:57 - 06:00
sure at the end of my call at the end
- 06:00 - 06:02
of my presentation at the end of my demo that
- 06:02 - 06:03
the audience is going to walk away with right.
- 06:04 - 06:05
So I'm gonna be able to have those three things
- 06:05 - 06:06
there. The fourth one.
- 06:07 - 06:08
What you see is that this one right here, which
- 06:09 - 06:10
is a story I wanna make sure that there is
- 06:10 - 06:13
a story that connects a lot of these takeaways with
- 06:13 - 06:15
what we want to kind of convey and that whole
- 06:15 - 06:17
message across the world as we know stories work.
- 06:18 - 06:20
And the fifth one is the idea we're going to
- 06:20 - 06:22
share a data point or maybe a piece of humor.
- 06:23 - 06:24
And if you think about it, I've kind of covered
- 06:25 - 06:27
these three right here, these three takeaways.
- 06:28 - 06:31
And now I told a story, if you remember, I
- 06:31 - 06:32
told a story about my dad and how he said
- 06:33 - 06:35
Nothing we do online will replace offline.
- 06:35 - 06:37
And the fifth one is that data point of humor
- 06:37 - 06:38
and actually funny enough.
- 06:39 - 06:42
This is a sticky note kind of covering what we're
- 06:42 - 06:42
talking about, right?
- 06:42 - 06:44
So we see what were my three takeaways?
- 06:44 - 06:46
The year of video again setting yourself up for success
- 06:47 - 06:50
with a four ease already covered that limitations inspire creativity.
- 06:51 - 06:53
I have talked about my dad's story and then last
- 06:53 - 06:55
but not least, Oh, I have to drop this data
- 06:55 - 06:56
point, right?
- 06:56 - 06:56
That's number five.
- 06:56 - 06:59
This allows me to bring back to center, allows me
- 06:59 - 07:00
not to get lost, but it also gives me the
- 07:01 - 07:01
freedom to be myself.
- 07:02 - 07:06
And that last one is the sales online grew 5%
- 07:08 - 07:09
from 2019 to 2020.
- 07:10 - 07:12
That is faster growth than we've ever seen before.
- 07:13 - 07:16
Actually, we've never seen more than a 2% growth in
- 07:16 - 07:20
any year on this digital online sales cycle, so I
- 07:20 - 07:22
think that's proof that well, yes, we gotta always be
- 07:22 - 07:25
closing. We also also embrace digital to always be ourselves.
- 07:26 - 07:28
And that, to me, is one of those critical points
- 07:28 - 07:28
where we have video.
- 07:29 - 07:32
We have the importance of transitioning and setting ourselves up
- 07:32 - 07:35
for success and then really embracing and creating a formulas
- 07:36 - 07:39
that we can deliver presentations in the best format that
- 07:39 - 07:39
we can.
- 07:39 - 07:42
And, well, I mentioned at the start of this that
- 07:43 - 07:44
I was going to address those that are a little
- 07:45 - 07:45
bit hesitant.
- 07:45 - 07:49
Those that are telling me, Brian, my customers aren't online.
- 07:50 - 07:52
Well, I'm gonna ask you to challenge that because I
- 07:52 - 07:54
think 2020 forced a lot of people that would traditionally
- 07:55 - 07:56
not be online to embrace online.
- 07:57 - 07:59
I would also argue that if even if they're not
- 07:59 - 08:03
online, the people that influence your customers, your are the
- 08:03 - 08:07
decision makers are actually online and engaged and embracing in
- 08:08 - 08:08
social and video.
- 08:09 - 08:10
Some of you might even say, Well, Brian, we're just
- 08:10 - 08:11
gonna wait till we go back to normal.
- 08:12 - 08:13
Well, first of all, we're not going back to normal,
- 08:13 - 08:15
and second of all, we have to be pushing for
- 08:15 - 08:18
it. We have to understand that we were living in
- 08:18 - 08:18
a new stage.
- 08:19 - 08:21
We are living in a new environment and then last
- 08:21 - 08:23
but not least, we have to really connect the dots
- 08:23 - 08:24
to what we're doing offline.
- 08:25 - 08:27
What we're doing online but bringing this entire thing full
- 08:27 - 08:31
circle to hopefully embrace this new environment, this new world.
- 08:31 - 08:34
Because I truly do believe if you find the harmony
- 08:35 - 08:39
between technology and innovation and digital and what we've always
- 08:40 - 08:43
done great selling and presenting our value proposition and delivering
- 08:43 - 08:45
our stories in the data that goes with it, we
- 08:45 - 08:47
can really do some magical things.
- 08:47 - 08:50
So I hope you guys enjoyed this little quick series
- 08:51 - 08:52
that I I did with Prezi Video, where we're talking
- 08:53 - 08:58
about creating great virtual presentations and while embracing Prezi and
- 08:58 - 09:01
this idea of selling in a virtual environment which, as
- 09:01 - 09:03
you can notice, I don't even need a green screen.
- 09:04 - 09:05
All of these things are done live.
- 09:06 - 09:08
And the cool part is that this technology I can
- 09:08 - 09:10
I can present this live in a webinar live on
- 09:10 - 09:11
Facebook live.
- 09:11 - 09:13
I could do it on a regular phone call that
- 09:13 - 09:14
were video phone call that we're having.
- 09:15 - 09:17
There's no fancy technology other than a Web camera, A
- 09:17 - 09:19
microphone. I got a couple of ring lights there behind
- 09:19 - 09:22
here. So until next time, my friends make it a
- 09:22 - 09:24
great day and remember, press the damn button
