Hello,
- 00:02 - 00:03
my name is Anthony Kingsley,
- 00:03 - 00:06
and today I'm gonna be telling you guys a little
- 00:06 - 00:09
bit about myself and a little about my background,
- 00:10 - 00:11
yep.
- 00:12 - 00:20
Um so I was born in Georgia actually and then I'm my mom and I moved to Bluffton Ohio
- 00:20 - 00:24
because my dad was getting into some bad stuff and
- 00:24 - 00:27
she probably made the best decision that she could because
- 00:28 - 00:32
raising a kid where she was was not, it wouldn't have been good.
- 00:32 - 00:34
And so yeah, I was
- 00:34 - 00:40
basically raised in Bluffton, so I've lived in Ohio for most of my life and
- 00:41 - 00:44
um living just with my mom, my grandma and grandpa,
- 00:44 - 00:50
her parents who lived down the road, so they helped out with taking care of me and
- 00:50 - 00:51
my mom had to work or
- 00:52 - 00:56
if she had to do something, I would just go to their house or something like that.
- 00:56 - 01:00
But it was, it's it's hard because where,
- 01:01 - 01:04
where we relocated was very
- 01:04 - 01:07
predominantly predominantly white and
- 01:07 - 01:12
I would say I was one of maybe 10-15
- 01:13 - 01:16
um african american people in my town when I was growing up
- 01:16 - 01:19
or like in my I guess not really in my town,
- 01:19 - 01:22
there's probably more that I just didn't know, but in my school
- 01:23 - 01:25
there was very few african american people,
- 01:25 - 01:26
so
- 01:27 - 01:31
growing up like that was a little a little difficult for me because
- 01:32 - 01:35
I I just felt out of place sometimes.
- 01:36 - 01:37
But um
- 01:38 - 01:39
yeah,
- 01:40 - 01:45
it definitely worked out eventually because the community has great support,
- 01:45 - 01:45
great support.
- 01:45 - 01:48
It's it's very good community, I'm not,
- 01:48 - 01:52
I'm not bashing the community by by all means, but um
- 01:52 - 01:53
yeah,
- 01:53 - 01:57
that's where I grew up. I played soccer, basketball, I ran track.
- 01:57 - 02:00
We went, I was very good at all of them. So I'm,
- 02:01 - 02:04
and I know my sports, I've been into sports for a while. I,
- 02:05 - 02:07
I play other sports on the side too. So like
- 02:07 - 02:08
those three are not my
- 02:09 - 02:10
soul sports that I have played
- 02:11 - 02:12
and or watched. Um,
- 02:14 - 02:19
yeah, so that's the, but the, that's the gist of my background. Um
- 02:21 - 02:26
yesterday when I was doing some research on Intersport,
- 02:26 - 02:28
I came across these three words
- 02:28 - 02:29
and
- 02:29 - 02:31
they stood out to me a lot because
- 02:32 - 02:37
it kind of describes me and um, how I like to prescribe perceive myself and
- 02:38 - 02:40
curiosity was
- 02:40 - 02:43
one of the bigger ones that I came along
- 02:43 - 02:44
came across and
- 02:45 - 02:47
I say this because I'm a very curious person.
- 02:47 - 02:51
I'm, I'm always asking questions, I'm always listening,
- 02:52 - 02:53
I'm always taking information in and
- 02:53 - 02:55
I'm very,
- 02:56 - 02:57
I'm very outgoing.
- 02:57 - 03:01
I'm very curious on a lot of things in life because a lot of it doesn't make any sense.
- 03:02 - 03:03
Um
- 03:04 - 03:07
but yeah, curiosity is one of the main things that stood out to me. I,
- 03:09 - 03:10
I would have to say that
- 03:11 - 03:13
curiosity led me to,
- 03:15 - 03:18
um, eventually making my own music and deejaying
- 03:18 - 03:21
and I say this because I took choir for
- 03:21 - 03:24
most of my high school and middle school careers um
- 03:26 - 03:27
in doing that
- 03:27 - 03:32
help me grow my passion for music. I've always loved music.
- 03:32 - 03:35
I've always loved um just what it does to you.
- 03:35 - 03:38
Like I love how you can listen to a song and
- 03:38 - 03:40
enter a whole different world and
- 03:40 - 03:40
I love that
- 03:41 - 03:42
and
- 03:42 - 03:43
I wanted to
- 03:44 - 03:49
do that myself. So I was a very curious person about how it worked and
- 03:49 - 03:53
um what I could do to make my own stuff and my freshman year of college,
- 03:53 - 03:57
I got my own equipment, I got my own software, I got
- 03:57 - 03:59
um I was watching Youtube videos
- 04:00 - 04:01
and basically just taught myself how to
- 04:02 - 04:03
mix Master produce,
- 04:04 - 04:05
um, do all the good stuff.
- 04:06 - 04:06
And
- 04:07 - 04:09
it was actually the same year that I started,
- 04:09 - 04:12
I dropped my first single on like apple music Spotify,
- 04:13 - 04:13
so
- 04:14 - 04:14
that
- 04:15 - 04:17
the curiosity led me to
- 04:18 - 04:20
starting my, my music career and
- 04:21 - 04:22
my passion for music
- 04:23 - 04:23
and
- 04:25 - 04:27
I was, it was last year that I started deejaying.
- 04:27 - 04:28
Um
- 04:28 - 04:30
I was curious on how
- 04:31 - 04:31
I saw,
- 04:31 - 04:35
I saw a video on instagram and I was curious on how someone was doing what
- 04:35 - 04:41
they were doing with two different songs and I saw that he was using a mixing board
- 04:41 - 04:42
and I was like,
- 04:42 - 04:44
I think I could do that myself.
- 04:45 - 04:46
So I got myself a mixing board
- 04:47 - 04:49
and I taught myself again,
- 04:49 - 04:51
Youtube is very,
- 04:51 - 04:53
very helpful uh
- 04:53 - 04:55
place to teach yourself stuff.
- 04:57 - 04:58
So, and then I got
- 04:58 - 04:59
um
- 05:00 - 05:02
a job at the bar right beside my house here,
- 05:02 - 05:06
deejaying and I started doing that for, I've done it for like a year now
- 05:07 - 05:11
and I love doing it because I love um
- 05:12 - 05:13
showing people
- 05:13 - 05:15
new music. I love showing people
- 05:16 - 05:19
how it works because whenever I'm at the bar they'll
- 05:19 - 05:20
come up to me and how does this work?
- 05:20 - 05:22
I love showing people that I love that.
- 05:23 - 05:26
And curiosity I think is what ultimately led me to
- 05:26 - 05:29
doing all this stuff with my music and my um
- 05:31 - 05:33
my passion for sports, my
- 05:34 - 05:36
curiosity, curiosity,
- 05:36 - 05:36
I love it.
- 05:37 - 05:39
Um connection
- 05:39 - 05:42
connections are so crucial in this world. It blows my mind
- 05:44 - 05:46
if I know a lot of people who if they
- 05:46 - 05:48
didn't have connections or if they didn't know people,
- 05:49 - 05:50
they wouldn't be where they're at,
- 05:50 - 05:51
they really wouldn't.
- 05:51 - 05:53
And hence myself,
- 05:53 - 05:56
I probably would not have the opportunity to get this
- 05:56 - 05:58
job if I didn't know people or have connections,
- 05:59 - 05:59
which
- 06:00 - 06:01
I mean it shows you that
- 06:01 - 06:04
you have to know people, you have to
- 06:06 - 06:09
not, not necessarily make friends with people
- 06:10 - 06:11
or everybody, but
- 06:12 - 06:18
just being able to be civil and relate to people is just, I mean it's crucial
- 06:19 - 06:21
and making connections because if you don't,
- 06:21 - 06:23
people are just gonna think that you're trying to
- 06:23 - 06:25
take advantage of them or do them wrong.
- 06:26 - 06:30
But connections are so key to growing your life and your,
- 06:30 - 06:33
your friend network and your network in general
- 06:33 - 06:37
and that was one of the things I struggled with when I first came to bowling green.
- 06:37 - 06:42
But I overcame that fast because I started going out and going
- 06:42 - 06:46
to the gym and playing basketball with random people and just talking to
- 06:46 - 06:50
them and then that ultimately led me to join the fraternity and
- 06:50 - 06:54
then there's more connection to so many more connections through greek life and
- 06:54 - 06:55
everybody in it. And
- 06:56 - 06:59
yeah, so like connections is, it's, it's not hard to do,
- 07:00 - 07:01
but
- 07:01 - 07:02
you just have to do it.
- 07:04 - 07:04
So
- 07:04 - 07:06
um but lastly courage,
- 07:06 - 07:08
courage is one of the main things that I
- 07:08 - 07:11
struggled with um in the younger years of my life
- 07:12 - 07:13
because people are just
- 07:13 - 07:14
mean.
- 07:14 - 07:15
Um
- 07:17 - 07:19
yeah, I had to kind of teach myself that
- 07:20 - 07:24
if someone is talking down to you or being
- 07:24 - 07:25
just rude and
- 07:25 - 07:26
like
- 07:27 - 07:30
you have no clue I or you, you know why
- 07:31 - 07:33
and you don't care, which is what you should be doing.
- 07:33 - 07:34
You should just not care if someone is
- 07:35 - 07:39
trash talking, you are trying to manipulate you or something like that
- 07:40 - 07:42
in one ear and out the other. You should just like
- 07:43 - 07:45
take whatever they're saying, listen,
- 07:45 - 07:47
you don't have to say nothing back, just listen, sit there and listen
- 07:49 - 07:52
and then let it go, walk away, let it go. It's not hard. It's really not hard.
- 07:53 - 07:56
I've, I guess it is hard to teach yourself how to do it at first,
- 07:56 - 07:58
but once you get it down, it's not hard.
- 07:58 - 07:59
It's really not.
- 07:59 - 08:00
Um
- 08:01 - 08:05
and that's, I think courage is one of the things that plays in with me the most because
- 08:06 - 08:10
I've had to overcome a lot a lot in my life. Um
- 08:11 - 08:13
I've had to
- 08:15 - 08:16
overcome a lot of struggles with
- 08:17 - 08:20
my family, my me and my mom's relationship,
- 08:21 - 08:24
me and my classmates relationships. Um
- 08:25 - 08:26
just
- 08:27 - 08:32
being able to go to a different place somewhere new growing up in a small town,
- 08:32 - 08:33
um
- 08:35 - 08:39
didn't give me a perspective of what the world really is, like, how big it really is.
- 08:39 - 08:43
And when I started traveling to different places with my family,
- 08:43 - 08:45
I realized that oh my gosh,
- 08:45 - 08:49
like there's so much more than this little town that I'm living in right now.
- 08:49 - 08:52
So courage helped me kind of come out of my shell and
- 08:53 - 08:55
realize that I need to
- 08:56 - 08:58
have curiosity,
- 08:58 - 08:59
connections
- 08:59 - 09:00
and courage
- 09:01 - 09:02
in order to
- 09:03 - 09:07
do what I want to do in life, but if you if I can
- 09:08 - 09:09
get those three things down,
- 09:10 - 09:11
especially courage,
- 09:11 - 09:12
I can do anything,
- 09:12 - 09:13
you can do anything with
- 09:14 - 09:15
courage. Like
- 09:15 - 09:16
all you need
- 09:18 - 09:20
is these three things in order to,
- 09:20 - 09:21
I don't know, not
- 09:22 - 09:25
I'm not saying you have to have these three things in order to run your life.
- 09:25 - 09:26
I'm more saying
- 09:26 - 09:28
these three things are
- 09:28 - 09:29
a description of me
- 09:29 - 09:30
and
- 09:30 - 09:32
what I prescribed myself to be
- 09:32 - 09:33
and
- 09:34 - 09:37
I think that they're so crucial. They're so crucial.
- 09:37 - 09:40
I loved, I loved when I saw this on on inter sports website,
- 09:40 - 09:43
I loved it because it relates to me a lot
- 09:44 - 09:44
and
- 09:45 - 09:49
yeah, so um once again, my name is Anthony Kingsley.
- 09:50 - 09:50
Um
- 09:51 - 09:53
I appreciate you guys taking the time to watch this video,
- 09:54 - 09:55
and I hope you have a good day.
- 09:56 - 09:56
Thank you.
