- 00:00 - 00:01
And now let's think about okay, what can we do
- 00:02 - 00:05
in our content to make it more empathetic to push
- 00:05 - 00:06
this really forward?
- 00:06 - 00:08
And the first thing is, we want our audience to
- 00:08 - 00:09
feel now.
- 00:10 - 00:12
We've heard that before, but what you want to start
- 00:12 - 00:14
thinking about is how do I let my audience know
- 00:15 - 00:16
that they are heard right?
- 00:16 - 00:18
I hear this all the time that Brian I don't
- 00:18 - 00:21
have. I'm working with some big fortune 100 brands on
- 00:22 - 00:22
creating virtual events.
- 00:23 - 00:24
Right? That's one of the big things I'm doing now
- 00:24 - 00:26
is I'm building virtual event strategy and, like, we don't
- 00:27 - 00:29
really have the time to reply and answer every question.
- 00:31 - 00:32
And I always fired back and say You don't have
- 00:32 - 00:33
to reply to everything.
- 00:33 - 00:35
You don't have to answer every single question.
- 00:35 - 00:38
But what you do have to dio what you have
- 00:38 - 00:40
to start thinking about is what you need to acknowledge
- 00:41 - 00:43
and let them know that their voices heard either.
- 00:44 - 00:47
Hey, letting people know podcasters to this great like thanks
- 00:47 - 00:49
everybody who emailed I had hundreds of emails.
- 00:50 - 00:51
I'm gonna read three of them, right?
- 00:51 - 00:52
It's letting people know.
- 00:52 - 00:55
I heard all of your emails and here are the
- 00:55 - 00:56
three years they didn't read all 100.
- 00:57 - 00:59
And I think that's something that we often overlook is
- 00:59 - 00:59
that we get way.
- 01:00 - 01:02
Make the excuse like I don't have time for that.
- 01:02 - 01:03
And I think if we really want to create that
- 01:04 - 01:07
empathy, remember, empathy requires us to be able to be
- 01:07 - 01:11
in someone else's feet in your shoes, like put on
- 01:11 - 01:13
their shoes and feel what they feel.
- 01:13 - 01:16
Understand who they are, The things that impact them, why
- 01:17 - 01:18
they do what they do and and making sure that
- 01:18 - 01:21
we let them know that they are heard is a
- 01:21 - 01:24
big piece of this and something that is essential when
- 01:24 - 01:26
it comes to understanding that empathy.
- 01:27 - 01:28
The other one is what I started off to talk
- 01:29 - 01:29
with, right that intimacy.
- 01:30 - 01:32
How do I create an intimate experience?
- 01:33 - 01:35
Part of that is by putting a human face on
- 01:36 - 01:38
it right, making sure that your blogged has someone's picture
- 01:39 - 01:39
on it.
- 01:39 - 01:40
And that person, right?
- 01:40 - 01:44
Like I love seeing bloggers that are on live video
- 01:44 - 01:47
because I get to know them through live video, and
- 01:47 - 01:50
then when I'm reading the blogged, I can hear their
- 01:50 - 01:52
voice, and I understand who they are.
- 01:52 - 01:54
I trust them at a deeper level.
- 01:54 - 01:56
Okay, Trust right.
- 01:56 - 01:56
Okay, that's perfect.
- 01:57 - 01:57
Segue Trust.
- 01:58 - 01:59
It's almost like I built this myself.
- 02:00 - 02:02
Uh, trust is another one, right?
- 02:02 - 02:04
Like, how do we building trust through our empathetic content?
- 02:05 - 02:06
And I, like this is like my soapbox.
- 02:07 - 02:10
This is where I give a keynote around the world
- 02:10 - 02:11
called digital Empathy.
- 02:12 - 02:14
Right? How do we How do we think about the
- 02:14 - 02:15
fact that we don't?
- 02:15 - 02:19
We can't be more empathetic by unplugging or using digital
- 02:19 - 02:20
or social media less.
- 02:20 - 02:24
It's about understanding how we prioritize each and where it
- 02:24 - 02:26
fits. And a lot of that prioritization has to come
- 02:27 - 02:32
through authenticity, vulnerability, simplicity and then making it relatable.
- 02:33 - 02:36
Think about that as why do we connect with the
- 02:36 - 02:36
radio deejay?
- 02:37 - 02:39
Because we all could picture ourselves being a D J,
- 02:39 - 02:40
right? Why?
- 02:40 - 02:41
What is that simplicity?
- 02:42 - 02:45
Really think about the simple simplicity on tick tock is
- 02:45 - 02:46
Hey, I like that song.
- 02:46 - 02:48
You click on the song, you hold down the button
- 02:49 - 02:50
and you're creating video, right?
- 02:50 - 02:52
How do we make that same connection?
- 02:53 - 02:56
How do we make that same really deep trust with
- 02:56 - 02:56
our audience?
- 02:57 - 02:57
And then, of course, authenticity.
- 02:58 - 03:00
is one that you know for me.
- 03:00 - 03:01
Is everything right?
- 03:01 - 03:03
Like it's How do we admit when we're wrong?
- 03:04 - 03:05
How do we talk about what we don't know?
- 03:06 - 03:07
How do we share our vulnerabilities and kind of break
- 03:08 - 03:09
down that wall?
- 03:09 - 03:11
And I think that's where we have to think about
- 03:11 - 03:12
this when it comes to connection, right?
- 03:13 - 03:14
And one of the talks I give is called Shrink
- 03:15 - 03:15
the distance.
- 03:16 - 03:20
How do we shrink the distance between ourselves and our
- 03:20 - 03:21
community? The audience?
- 03:21 - 03:23
How do we not let the screens that we're using
- 03:25 - 03:27
disrupt this experience that we're creating?
- 03:27 - 03:29
And I think this is one that we all kind
- 03:29 - 03:32
of have toe figure out ourselves and so connection, I
- 03:32 - 03:35
thought was really valuable because when you know, if those
- 03:35 - 03:38
that saw the Charlie D'Amelio um, collaboration with Dunkin Donuts,
- 03:39 - 03:39
it was amazing.
- 03:40 - 03:42
I went toe Dunkin Donuts twice when it was going
- 03:42 - 03:44
on, and they had stickers outside the window.
- 03:45 - 03:49
But Charlie was drinking these her caramel latte, caramel ice
- 03:50 - 03:53
coffee with extra sugar, whole milk on a regular on
- 03:53 - 03:54
tick tock.
- 03:54 - 03:55
And then they combine and they collaborated.
- 03:56 - 03:59
And when I look at the partnerships, the influencer connections
- 04:00 - 04:01
on tick tock.
- 04:01 - 04:02
They're not campaigns.
- 04:03 - 04:04
Their collaborations.
- 04:05 - 04:06
They're really that connection, right?
- 04:07 - 04:10
Like how doe I build a collaboration with this influencer
- 04:11 - 04:11
with these people.
- 04:12 - 04:13
And I think that's an important piece of this, and
- 04:14 - 04:14
it really connects with that community.
- 04:15 - 04:18
And then, of course, that that one being curation, right?
- 04:18 - 04:19
Like you don't have to.
- 04:19 - 04:21
Most of the, you know, us don't think of ourselves
- 04:22 - 04:24
as creators, but we will curate.
- 04:24 - 04:26
We will take something that someone else has done.
- 04:27 - 04:29
Or like I love taking like my favorite block post.
- 04:30 - 04:31
And then when I posted, I put my own opinion
- 04:32 - 04:33
above it, and I share the block post.
- 04:33 - 04:35
Therefore, I don't have to write an entire new block
- 04:36 - 04:39
post. I still get to share my authority, but I
- 04:39 - 04:42
also get to support and celebrate those that air in
- 04:42 - 04:43
my community and collaborate.
- 04:43 - 04:45
And of course, I mentioned Relatability Relatability.
- 04:46 - 04:48
I mean, I said this last year, a content marking
- 04:48 - 04:49
world on stage.
- 04:50 - 04:53
I believe relatability is the future of marketing, right?
- 04:53 - 04:55
How do we relate with our audience?
- 04:55 - 04:56
How do we shrink that distance?
- 04:57 - 04:59
And that, to me, comes out in a connection trust,
- 05:00 - 05:02
empathy and feeling, and then I think this is why
- 05:02 - 05:04
Where I think we have to take it a step
- 05:04 - 05:04
further. Right?
- 05:05 - 05:05
We're in 22,020.
- 05:07 - 05:08
So many things going on in our world, of course,
- 05:09 - 05:11
especially the US We have the elections coming up, A
- 05:11 - 05:13
ZX. Well, we have to start thinking about how are
- 05:13 - 05:16
we empowering our audience to not only be our fans
- 05:16 - 05:19
and our marketers, but to be better people to what?
- 05:19 - 05:20
Be good people, right?
- 05:20 - 05:21
Like, what about my shirt says.
- 05:22 - 05:24
And so I think when we think about empowering, how
- 05:24 - 05:27
do we become the gateway for people to do things
- 05:28 - 05:29
they never thought they were going to do, like right?
- 05:30 - 05:31
All those creators, I was listening.
- 05:31 - 05:33
I was talking thio They never thought they would post
- 05:34 - 05:34
on social media creates.
- 05:35 - 05:38
And now they're, you know, millions of followers, a couple
- 05:38 - 05:39
of them in, like, 15 million, 18 million followers.
- 05:41 - 05:44
And they're doing so now because it was talk enable
- 05:45 - 05:45
that gateway.
- 05:45 - 05:48
It was a simplistic, um, you know, conversation.
- 05:48 - 05:51
And we can also make this empowering piece there through
- 05:52 - 05:52
educating and creativity.
- 05:53 - 05:55
And so, last but not least, where I want to
- 05:55 - 05:58
end this presentation on his attention, right?
- 05:58 - 06:02
Empathetic content is about content, community and connection, and I
- 06:02 - 06:05
firmly believe that we are greater than me.
- 06:06 - 06:08
And in that bigger picture, that's something we all have
- 06:08 - 06:10
to think about right together we can change the world.
- 06:11 - 06:14
But when we think about this empathetic content conversation, what
- 06:14 - 06:18
we need to shift our perspective on is how do
- 06:18 - 06:19
we look at attention, right?
- 06:19 - 06:22
It's not about getting just the attention of our new
- 06:22 - 06:23
customers, our community.
- 06:24 - 06:27
But how do we activate our current people that we
- 06:27 - 06:28
have attention, Right?
- 06:28 - 06:29
How do we capture that new attention?
- 06:30 - 06:34
How do we inspire people to get us MAWR intention
- 06:34 - 06:37
and then even more so how do we get that
- 06:37 - 06:38
empowered attention?
- 06:39 - 06:41
Which is where I think we turn fans into influencers,
- 06:42 - 06:45
influencers in the brand ambassadors or even employees into that
- 06:46 - 06:46
same piece.
- 06:46 - 06:48
And so this is where I think we have to
- 06:48 - 06:51
go if we really want to understand that power and
- 06:51 - 06:53
importance of empathy and empathetic content.
- 06:54 - 06:56
So with that, I hope you guys enjoyed my session.

Remember, Together we can change the world.
- 07:30 - 07:31
We are greater than me.
- 07:32 - 07:34
We have to put that empathetic content hat on.
- 07:35 - 07:37
We have to think about what is our role in
- 07:37 - 07:40
in all of these different facets and hopefully together we're
- 07:41 - 07:42
gonna make this a better place and we're gonna become

better marketers.
