This presentation is an opportunity for me to share
- 00:04 - 00:07
my summary of learning from my EDTC 300 class.
- 00:10 - 00:13
I had the opportunity to be able to use Twitter to discover
- 00:13 - 00:16
and share educational technology resources with
- 00:16 - 00:19
peers and other educators and organizations.
- 00:21 - 00:23
Our class took part in the #SaskEdChat where we
- 00:23 - 00:27
got to converse with other educators and answer education related questions.
- 00:28 - 00:32
I also got to share multiple resources including the profiles of educators,
- 00:32 - 00:35
educational websites, articles,
- 00:35 - 00:37
educational tools, quotes,
- 00:37 - 00:40
mental health posts as well as links to my personal blog.
- 00:43 - 00:45
I was also able to build a connection with many of my EDTC
- 00:46 - 00:46
peers
- 00:47 - 00:51
as well as other professional educators and other education related accounts.
- 00:51 - 00:53
I did a lot of retweeting and likes.
- 01:00 - 01:03
I was able to expand upon the education website that I already
- 01:03 - 01:07
had by adding my own personal blog posts for our edtech 300 class.
- 01:09 - 01:11
Each week we were tasked with learning a new skill
- 01:11 - 01:14
and documenting it through a learning blog post weekly.
- 01:14 - 01:17
For my learning posts, I learned how to do A. S. L.
- 01:17 - 01:19
Using a stack skills courses, among other
- 01:19 - 01:21
tools and resources and then recorded videos
- 01:21 - 01:25
of myself doing the signs I learned each week and then posted them to Youtube
- 01:30 - 01:31
Along with doing the blog posts,
- 01:31 - 01:33
we were given a chance to respond to a
- 01:33 - 01:36
blog post prompt with a digital educational technology topic.
- 01:36 - 01:39
Some of these topics included digital identity,
- 01:39 - 01:41
digital citizenship and digital literacy.
- 01:45 - 01:46
Lastly
- 01:46 - 01:50
we were tasked with commenting and providing feedback on our classmates blog posts.
- 01:50 - 01:53
I found myself often encouraging and providing support from my peers,
- 01:53 - 01:54
contributions.
- 01:55 - 01:57
I also received great feedback from my own peers
- 01:57 - 02:00
and was able to answer questions that I received
- 02:00 - 02:02
regarding different parts of my own learning blog posts.
- 02:08 - 02:11
We were given a multitude of readings and resources throughout this course.
- 02:11 - 02:13
I picked a few of my favorites to share.
- 02:14 - 02:15
Amanda Todd.
- 02:16 - 02:18
The story of Amanda Todd really brought to life the importance of
- 02:18 - 02:20
why we need to be careful of what we post,
- 02:20 - 02:23
but also the dangers that exist out in the digital world.
- 02:29 - 02:31
S A. M. R. Model.
- 02:31 - 02:33
This model contains four different steps
- 02:33 - 02:35
which moved from little technological involvement
- 02:35 - 02:37
to major technological involvement.
- 02:38 - 02:40
Each technological tool that exists can fall under
- 02:40 - 02:44
one of the four steps substitution augmentation,
- 02:44 - 02:45
modification
- 02:45 - 02:46
and redefinition
- 02:50 - 02:52
nine Elements of Digital Citizens.
- 02:53 - 02:55
Mike Gravel shares nine elements or themes
- 02:55 - 02:57
of digital citizenship.
- 02:57 - 02:59
He shares the definition of digital citizenship
- 02:59 - 03:02
as the continuously developing norms of appropriate,
- 03:02 - 03:05
responsible and empowered technology use.
- 03:06 - 03:09
to lead and assist others in building positive digital experiences
- 03:10 - 03:12
to recognize that our actions have consequences to others
- 03:13 - 03:15
to participate in the manner for the common good.
- 03:15 - 03:19
He then shares nine elements that include ideas such as digital access,
- 03:20 - 03:21
digital etiquette
- 03:21 - 03:23
and digital health and welfare,
- 03:27 - 03:29
How one Tweet Can Ruin Your Life.
- 03:30 - 03:33
Jon Ronson shares stories of different individuals who made tweets
- 03:33 - 03:36
or posts that ended up drastically changing their life.
- 03:36 - 03:39
He also touches on the idea of cancel culture and if
- 03:39 - 03:42
the way we treat people who make mistakes is truly fair
- 03:42 - 03:45
with the level of permanency that the digital world provides us with.
- 03:51 - 03:52
In reflection of the edtech course,
- 03:53 - 03:55
there are a few aspects that were focused on throughout the
- 03:55 - 03:57
course or were consistently highlighted through
- 03:57 - 03:59
our class meeting times and assignments.
- 04:00 - 04:00
Connection.
- 04:01 - 04:04
We were given multiple opportunities to connect with our classmates,
- 04:04 - 04:06
during our class meetings, through twitter, our blog
- 04:06 - 04:08
posts, and discord, just to name a few.
- 04:08 - 04:08
We
- 04:09 - 04:10
were also encouraged to build connections
- 04:10 - 04:13
with other educators and organizations through twitter.
- 04:14 - 04:15
Digital classroom.
- 04:16 - 04:19
We were provided with multiple resources through the use of twitter
- 04:19 - 04:22
as well as class readings that we can use in our future classrooms.
- 04:22 - 04:25
It is almost overwhelming with how many resources we
- 04:25 - 04:27
now have on our hands to be able to use
- 04:27 - 04:28
Expanded learning
- 04:29 - 04:32
In the same way that we were given resources for our future classrooms,
- 04:32 - 04:36
we were given a ton of resources that can help us with our role as educators
- 04:36 - 04:39
as well as tools for our own learning and well being.
- 04:40 - 04:41
Digital identity.
- 04:41 - 04:45
We were given the opportunity to take a look at our own existing digital identity
- 04:46 - 04:48
as well as learn how to expand upon our identity.
- 04:49 - 04:50
through making professional posts and creating our
- 04:50 - 04:52
own resources that can provide a
- 04:52 - 04:57
glimpse for outside people to see who we are as educators and digital citizens.
- 05:00 - 05:02
This course provided a ton of opportunities
- 05:03 - 05:05
to be able to practice using technological tools,
- 05:05 - 05:07
build up our digital identity,
- 05:07 - 05:08
create connections
- 05:08 - 05:11
and overall gain more insight and understanding of
- 05:11 - 05:13
the digital age that we're currently living in.
- 05:13 - 05:15
My hope is that I can take the skills,
- 05:15 - 05:16
resources,
- 05:16 - 05:18
knowledge and new understandings of educational
- 05:18 - 05:21
technology into my future classroom.
