Electromagnetic Waves
1. Solar panel: it produce electricity .
2. X-rays: to see the internal part of the body
3. Gamma rays: finding problems during metal work
Sound waves
Types of Waves
Electromagnetic Waves
Light Waves
Sound waves are...
- Longitudinal waves
- Mechanical waves
- Requires medium to travel
- Travels at about 340 m/s at sea level
- Infrasound, audible sound, and ultrasound
Microwaves
Radio Waves
Remote TV
- Electromagnetic waves
- Light waves
- Sound waves
Light waves are:
- The only electromagnetic waves that we can see with the human eye
- Light waves consists of 7 colors, which are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet
- There are many useful applications of light waves in general, such as:
For communication
Ultrasonic sound
Also called sonogram
Used in scanning the womb
Sonar
Used on ships and submarines
Determining the depth of the sea
- Verbal communication
- Only applies to audible sound (20 Hz - 20000 Hz)
Detecting flaw in railroad
First 2 Examples (Simple Examples):
Second 2 Examples (A bit complicated):
- Stage Lighting
- Light has been used in drama stages since a couple of decades ago, mainly in places like cinemas
- Wildlife Research
- For researches of wildlife that wants to travel the wilds in night time, light is very useful to guide them and notice the wilds surroundings
- Chemical Identification
- Some chemicals such as sulfur, reflects the yellow color to when receiving light waves
- This helps some chemist to identify different elements/materials by the colors that each substance shows by reflecting light waves
- Color Monitors (Computers)
- Main colors used in projected computer monitors are basically green, red, and blue
- By mixing the three different colors in different portions, the monitor can achieve any millions of different colors
