Transcript: I observe as the patient line up at the window to recieve their medication after having breakfast. I saw that some patient had to sit down in front of Nurse Arun for atleast 30mins after taking their medication to insert that the medication was digested because some patients would go to their room and try to bring it back up. I also observed that the female patient I had mention early had question Nurse Arun about her medication. She stated that she doesn't know what the medications were for and Nurse Arun took the time out the explain the three medications in questioning. After giving her pain medication he charted a PRN medication proccess note and put it in the S.B.A.R.. communication book. TEMPLE What happen was... EPISCOPAL APRIL 10, 2016 Today I visited the EPISCOPAL at Temple University Hospital. I was with Colita on the PM-4 (Long term mental care unit). We were introduced to Nurse Arun who was in the middle of hand over from another RN. Once hand over was complete Nurse Arun introduce us to the rest of the care team but unfortunately I only remember Patricia the LNP (the lady I always bothered to open the doors for me). The Patient We join the patients in church service next door were we met up with LeRhonda and Victoria. The two highlights for me was when the patient choir sang a beautiful song to open service and Kevin (a patient), Victoria and I celebrate our birthdays in the same month so they sang us happy birthday. Overall, I didn't enjoy my entry experience. I would have prefer to work on a more acute side or maybe rehab. I didn't get the experience i anticipated especially because I felt like Nurse Arun was overwelm with being under-staff and with us ( the two student) asking questions. At first I felt unwanted because they gave us an "option" to pick up a pt's file and go in conference room to review it. I undertand that the unit was short staff and that it was the simplest task to give while they sort the unit out but I just felt unwanted. I will admit that Nurse Arun did try his best to explaining all the question I had about the unit but it was stopping him for doing his work and I saw the anxiety on his face. This day wasn't enough to stimulate my interest in mental health. I was hoping this visit will give me good judgment of whether or not I wanted to be in mental health. I just wish we could have rotated units. Since Nurse Arun was the only RN on duty, he had all the patients on the ward. One patient that I observe was an old lady who suffered from schizophrenia. I read her chart and found out she was on several medication which include; amolodipine besylate, atorvastatin calcium, docusate sodium, feprous suleate, oxybutynin choloride, paliperidone palmitate and prednisolone acetate What else happen? My feelings What did I see? ...on the ward Nurse Arun walked us through how he got the patient's drug ready for administration using the Pyrix machine. I found it surprising that Arun didn't need another nurse to check this order like the nurses in M.W.I. do when they put all the patients' medication in cups on in Rehab.
